Frightened, they left the brush for open ground and hiked several miles to a road to get a ride home.

While driving slowly with his wife the witness stopped to examine several full elk skeletons beside the road. As he glassed them they heard a loud knock from just below the remains, shut off the truck to listen, heard a second knock from the same spot about thirty seconds later, then left the area.
