The witness and her son were hunting from a deer stand at dusk when they heard prolonged pig squealing followed by silence and then saw deer behaving erratically. Minutes later they heard repeated groups of wood-on-wood knocks answered from different directions, then a deep warbling growling talking-like sound that was not English. Frightened, they left the stand without ever seeing an animal.

Two backpackers were sleeping at a camp along the Timberline Trail when they were awakened around midnight by loud wood-on-wood knocking from below. The knocks came from the same direction and distance in repeated series over about three hours. During a summer expedition the witness and two companions followed responsive knocking sounds through forest toward a cut line. They exchanged mouth pops, whistles and rock strikes and repeatedly received two and sometimes three knocks back, including pops that seemed to come from the top of a large isolated tree. After sitting and listening for 30 to 45 minutes they found a large track and smaller juvenile-like tracks in moss nearby before leaving as the sounds stopped.

Two campers floating and fishing the Lower Buffalo River heard loud monkey-like vocalizations from the bank and later camped on a gravel bar. Through the night they reported repeated wood knocks, yells, chatter, whistles, a tree snap, and cantaloupe-sized rocks landing in the river from the ridge across from camp. They lit the camp, kept fire watch in shifts, and at dawn packed and paddled out after a final rock fell in front of them.

The witness was sleeping in a tent at a remote campground when they awoke abruptly around 2 a.m. They heard several loud, low-pitched whoop-like grunts from a short distance behind the tent, apparently exchanged between two individuals. This was followed by several loud wood knocks that also seemed to be an exchange between two sources. After about an hour of silence the witness fell back asleep while companions remained asleep.

Over spring and summer 2022 the witness repeatedly visited a remote trout pond to fish from a canoe. During visits the witness heard multiple tree falls and many tree knocks without seeing the source, with activity increasing to a peak in mid-August. On a mid-August visit the witness found a birch section leaned against another tree at the water's edge that had not been noticed before and later found intact birch bark on rocks blocking the trail. The witness reported strange occurrences only while on the pond fishing, not while hiking in, out, or around.

The witness was walking in a power line cut in the early afternoon when loud wood-on-wood knocks were heard from both sides of the clearing, seeming to answer each other. The witness stayed four nights in a rented cabin above the Wenatchee River with two relatives. On three consecutive nights between about 1 and 3 a.m. she heard repeated howls from the forest while awake with windows open. On the third night she also heard three loud single wood knocks followed by several minutes of thumping on the lower back deck. On the fourth night, when other people were nearby and all three listened, nothing was heard.

The witness and two companions were sitting quietly listening for hogs in dense pine woods near a river and swamp when they heard a limb snap and saw a bird fly off. Minutes later they heard two sequences of three very loud knocks from different estimated distances. Thinking the sounds might be other hunters, they walked back to the road but saw no other vehicles.

They then heard an additional knock from the opposite side of the truck and left the area after hearing nothing more.
