Kayakers report camp intimidation all night long on Lower Buffalo River

Two campers floating and fishing the Lower Buffalo River heard loud monkey-like vocalizations from the bank and later camped on a gravel bar. Through the night they reported repeated wood knocks, yells, chatter, whistles, a tree snap, and cantaloupe-sized rocks landing in the river from the ridge across from camp. They lit the camp, kept fire watch in shifts, and at dawn packed and paddled out after a final rock fell in front of them.

The incident was reported to authorities and an investigation at the released coordinates was said to be planned.
A large expedition had been conducted about ten years earlier on a different section of the river.
