The witness was outside at a relative's rural farm at night when a loud, hair-raising vocalization was heard from across a lake. The witness ran to a shed where two relatives were working but had not heard the sound. Horses nearby became agitated and later avoided the area where the sound originated until daylight.
Possible tracks noticed by hunters in the Everglades outside Everglades City
The witness was hunting with five relatives and family friends in a remote part of the Everglades in the fall. About an hour into the evening hunt, the group found large footprints in mud at a dried water hole near a tree line, with disturbed brush beyond. The group left the area soon after, ending the trip. The witness later interpreted the tracks as those of a skunk ape.

Two boys walked from their houses into nearby woods toward a creekbed to shoot BB guns while footsteps seemed to parallel them and close to nearby. At the bottom of the creekbed they looked toward the sounds and saw a roughly seven-foot-tall hair-covered figure whose face they could not discern. Both fled home in fear and said the figure did not follow them.

A teacher and companions are said to have encountered a tall creature on at least six occasions near an old bridge in Cooke County, Texas. The encounters occurred at night from a vehicle, with the figure seen as a tall silhouette in headlights and heard making threatening noises while moving through brush. On one occasion the creature was described as bouncing a limb, whose height was measured the next day, and daytime searches reportedly found bones in the creek. Shots were allegedly fired at the creature without apparent effect.

Shortly after setting out in the afternoon they found two sets of very large footprints in the snow running along the bay. They followed the tracks and found body-sized impressions where the makers appeared to have lain and moved limbs in the snow, then found a partly eaten fish near a dock. As dusk approached they left the area and saw nothing further that night.

As a teenager camping with relatives in Ocala National Forest, the witness slept apart in a sleeping bag on the ground. After falling asleep, the witness awoke to bipedal footsteps entering the camp and heavy breathing with deep sniffs very close to the head. The witness lay still in terror, sensing the intruder watching, until it left silently and normal night sounds resumed. Nothing was seen or smelled, and no tracks were checked.

While tracking a wounded buck down the mountain at dusk, the witness heard parallel movement with breaking limbs, rustling leaves, a grunt and a growl. The sounds mirrored the witness's own stops and starts and at times fell silent. The witness fled through a briar patch to a truck, heard grunting again behind, and never saw the source.

Near where the tracks crossed a road the group found berry-filled scat, and later found another set of similar tracks in an old burn area. At daybreak, very large foot-like indentations were found in dry and wet sand around the sleeping area, campfire and tent.

Four people sleeping outdoors beside a river were awakened around 2 a.m. by loud screaming from across the river. The source paced the far bank, crossed the river, snapped a fallen log, approached within 10 feet while screaming and giving off a strong odor, then recrossed the river and left up the hill over about 25 minutes. Nothing was seen because it was pitch dark.

At night around the campfire the group heard loud yells from the direction of the dam that seemed to get closer, and counselors sent everyone to bed. Later in a teepee the witness felt the ground shake with loud booming steps and was held still by a counselor; the camp broke quickly the next morning.

The witness was parked in a car with two companions at a forest reserve pull-off on a summer evening when a large furry hand appeared gripping a tree. Moments later a large furry head peeked around the tree and quickly withdrew without approaching. The group left the area immediately and rarely spoke of the incident afterward.

In late July 1974 the witness walked with his parents and dog south along a trail toward thick woods. As they walked they heard loud cracks, pops and snaps from the treeline that seemed to parallel their movement, smelled rotten garbage, and the dog became fearful. Near the site of a previously found stick shelter they heard a tree snap and crash nearby, then turned back while snapping sounds seemed to follow them to the clearing.

Two teenagers stopped for a few minutes by a small lake or beaver pond while riding dirt bikes on an overgrown logging road. A loud scream lasting up to 15 seconds and varying in pitch came from an opposite ridge about a mile away. Startled, they left immediately and told only immediate family members about what they heard.

Early one morning while still dark, the witness and a companion walking to the bus stop noticed a dark cone-shaped mound under a street lamp about 300 feet away. The shape stood up and walked toward the end of the street, then turned, picked something from the ground, and entered a strip of woods. The witness estimated it was about seven feet tall, very thin with wide hips, long arms, and a pointed crest on its head.

In 1974 the witness and a companion camped on a small island in a marsh after setting turtle lines. Around 10:30 p.m. on a moonlit, still night they heard splashing and saw ripples, then observed a tall figure standing waist-deep about 75 yards away for about 45 seconds. The figure turned its head and walked easily through deep water and muck until out of sight, after which both left the area.
