Camper hears screams while camping in Kennebunk, Maine
The witness and a companion camped overnight in a tent in scrub pine after returning from a motorcycle rally. Late at night something approached the tent, producing a strong odor, audible movement, breathing and ground vibration, and a loud scream that continued intermittently before leaving. At daylight the witness found large indistinct impressions in grass and broken ferns leading toward a cliff but no clear tracks.

The witness and a companion were backpacking to fish when they missed a trail marker and camped overnight on a bluff below a canyon rim. The witness reported feeling watched overnight. The next morning the companion found a single large five-toed footprint in wet sand near a spring about 80 feet from camp, which both examined. Noting rain the prior morning had left drop patterns everywhere except the print, and smelling a musty odor, they left the area.

Four girls were riding horses on a moonlit night when their horses stopped and focused on a hilltop ahead. They heard a loud guttural growl mixed with vowel-like sounds and wood snapping, which frightened them. They galloped back to the farm where they were staying. The next morning they found a small wooden corral they had built on that hilltop broken apart.

The witness and relatives were camped overnight when a foul stench filled the air and an extremely loud scream beginning as a growl was heard. The dog hid, and rounds fired into the air temporarily drove the source away, but it returned repeatedly until dawn despite a large fire. Nothing was ever seen and no unusual tracks were found, though a nearby stand of broken saplings carried the same odor.

The witness was snowmobiling through a remote marshy area in February when they came upon a trail of barefoot human-like prints in deep crusted snow. They stopped to examine the trail and concluded the prints were not from a bear, snowshoes, or anything familiar. Frightened by the size and human appearance of the tracks, they left the area quickly.

The witness and his wife returned in late January to a rock grotto where he had earlier found a possible bedding area. They found the bed intact but an old wagon moved from a ledge with drag marks in the rock. As they hiked out through a ravine, unseen actors on both ridges followed them for about an hour with knocks, whistles and other vocalizations, shaking and snapping saplings and throwing rocks until the pair reached the woods edge. Neither reported seeing anything.

When the witness was about seven, the family found very large footprints on a Lake Superior beach. While leaving through the woods toward the car they heard loud screeching and something large jumping nearby without being seen. They left quickly in the car, with the witness feeling the source was too big to be people.

The witness, then a child, was hunting with the witness's father and a companion along a river when a very loud single scream lasting several seconds stopped the group and frightened them. The older hunters reportedly had never heard a similar animal sound. As the group left the area, the companion reported movement in nearby trees and large footprints in the river sand.

A group staying in a high-elevation pine forest reported repeated large footprints and strange nighttime sounds over an unspecified period. During one late-night episode, one person looking out from a shelter saw a large shape briefly enter moonlight and then leave. Pine cones landed sideways next to the witness and large tracks were seen in smashed grass, with a sense of being watched and shadowed until leaving the plateau. No creature was seen.

The witness and a relative followed large human-like tracks in mud from the edge of a soybean field through a forest into a clearing. The clearing contained many dog prints in a circle and blood on the ground. The tracks then continued into a bog.

The witness and two companions were hunting deer in fresh snow when they found very fresh large human-like barefoot tracks. They followed the tracks about 50 yards to a dirty depression where something large appeared to have been lying, then saw the tracks continue downhill. No animal was seen, and heavy snow limited visibility to a few yards.

In mid-summer 1970 the witness was driving along the Sandy River looking for a place to target shoot when he found saplings snapped off with the tops formed into a large bedding area. Nearby were several freshly gutted rabbits, a death-like smell, and unusually silent woods. He left to find a ranger station and returned with a ranger who photographed the site, after which both described themselves as becoming believers.

On a sandy bar beside a pool they found very large, deep tracks crossing in a straight line with a long stride. After several minutes he rolled over quickly and saw a dark-faced, brown-furred creature with a large conical head peering in, which left within seconds. The next morning he found a single large heel/footprint about eight inches wide in mud by a small stream behind the cabin.

The tracks appeared to come from the campsite area and angle off toward the creek into trees, with a stride a tall adult could not match.
