Footsteps in Vermont (1987)
The guest and his brother hiked partway up a mountain for a quick overnight in summer and slept in two small shelters a few feet apart during a thunderstorm. During the night the guest was awakened by something moving around the camp and then between the shelters, feeling the foot impacts in his body. In the morning they found no tracks or other sign, only an old stone post nearby, and could not explain what had passed through.

A young man went alone to climb and rappel a ninety-foot bluff with a cave opening. While hanging on the rope it jerked tight and he saw a small dark juvenile swinging from it, then a much larger black adult with amber eyes appeared, screamed, threw the young one to a tree and slid down. The pair walked upright into cover while the adult beat the ground and vocalized, and the witness fled to his truck.

The witness and his best friend camped behind rented acreage near Mill Creek and cooked hunted food. After lying down they heard objects being thrown into the creek, with splashes approaching from the north and also heard from the south. They shone a light, saw only ripples, shouted a warning, and the sounds eventually stopped.

In 1987 the witness was lying in a basement bedroom with the window open on a cool late-summer night. She heard a loud unfamiliar howling and screaming vocalization that frightened her and her dog, followed minutes later by heavy footsteps outside the window and on the deck plus a horrific odor. She sensed something pacing in front of the window as if looking in before leaving, then heard the same vocalization again and closed the window.

The witness was on a picnic date by a sandy creek in Texas in the evening. While carrying items back to his vehicle he heard a deep grunt, then watched a dark hair-covered biped run upright down a hill and sprint across deep sand. It shortened its stride to leap about 12 feet across the creek, pulled its foot from the far bank, and continued up the other side. His companion also saw it and asked who that was.

While walking to a duck blind in the early morning, the witness and companions heard trees snapping and movement in nearby timber. Later, while walking back alone to the truck for shells, the witness again heard branches breaking and movement paralleling him that stopped when he stopped. When he raised his empty shotgun toward the sound, a loud long guttural scream echoed through the trees, which companions back at the pond also heard, terrifying the witness who ran to lock himself in the truck.

The witness was waiting in a tree stand before daylight when something bipedal approached from a bottom and stopped underneath. He could hear heavy breathing but never saw it in the dark. After a short time it turned and walked back toward where it came from.
Footsteps in Washington (1987)
In 1987 the witness was deer hunting and camping in eastern Washington. After the group left him alone at a logging road camp, he heard bipedal footsteps approach his tent at night, felt something strike the tent, then heard movement near his car and a log being torn apart in a gully before fleeing by vehicle to the highway. A night or two later he returned with a hunting companion and both heard multiple chattering, tonal and clicking vocalizations from different directions surrounding the camp.

The witness was sleeping in a sleeping bag on a river bank with companions when she woke to bipedal footsteps on a ledge above. A large figure stood behind willow canes about 10 feet away, yelling with speech-like inflection while stomping, shaking vegetation, and giving off a skunk-like odor. After a few minutes the figure left without the witness seeing or hearing its departure, and she stayed awake until morning.

The witness, then a child, was sleeping in the family's A-frame when very loud, high-pitched screams from behind the house woke the household. The father fired a handgun from a loft window and later used a spotlight, hearing something move away upslope but never seeing the source. Similar late-night screams recurred several times over the following week, and daytime searches found broken small trees and a rotten-egg smell but no tracks or other samples. The family moved away within a month.

On Christmas morning in 1986 the witness went to the rear entrance of a relative's house to retrieve a forgotten item while the rest of the family waited to leave. Hearing loud crashing approaching through the rear forest, the witness turned to see a tall bulky upright creature with dark hair standing just inside the treeline about 30 metres away. After a brief exchange of looks the witness fled around to the front and joined the family in the car without telling them what had been seen.

Three people were coon hunting with dogs when they heard crunching leaves and breaking branches behind them but saw nothing, and one young dog ran past frightened. They walked back to a small creek and noticed a strong foul odor described as wet dog, sour, rotten and sulfurous. The witness then saw two large red eyes about 50-75 yards away and a roughly 9-foot-tall bipedal figure that crossed a power line into the woods in about two steps.

The witness was deer hunting with companions and stopped to rest on a hill. A black entity about the witness's height ran very fast down the hill about 50 yards away and disappeared in about five seconds, with breaking deadfall heard as it left. The witness was startled, thought it might have been watching, and later wondered if it was a large bear or loose livestock.

The witness was archery hunting from a ground blind near a hog wallow when he heard close grunting and breathing that he could not see. After the sounds stopped he inspected the area and found very large scat and large deep tracks leading to and away from the scat. He first assumed hogs and then a very large bear made the sign, but later judged the scat too large for a Florida black bear.

He described it as a 6 to 7 foot tall, broad, stooped biped covered in dark brown hair.
