Bow hunter describes possible tracks, sounds and scat north of Lake Butler
Account
The witness was archery hunting from a ground blind near a hog wallow when he heard close grunting and breathing that he could not see. After the sounds stopped he inspected the area and found very large scat and large deep tracks leading to and away from the scat. He first assumed hogs and then a very large bear made the sign, but later judged the scat too large for a Florida black bear.

Large two-piece medium-brown scat pile found about 2 yards from wallow, smooth and firm with apparent vegetable matter and distinct odor.
Measurements: one piece ~18 to 24 inches in length and 4 to 5 inches in diameter, second slightly smaller; initially described as 3.5 to 4.0 inches diameter and 1.5 to 2.0 feet long
Approximately 6-7 large tracks leading to and from scat, aligned as bipedal walk, toe impressions barely visible, about twice as deep as witness boot print.
Measurements: about 14 inches in length; over 6 inches wide; stride over 4 to 5 feet; twice as deep as witness track
An investigator spoke with the witness by telephone for about 45 minutes.
