On Monday evening 5/14 around 9pm at a relative's riverbank house, the relative noticed a roughly 9- to 10-foot limb protruding from the ground that had not appeared in panoramic photos taken earlier that day. A wildlife biologist viewed the first track but considered it contaminated, and later investigators visiting the site found no tracks or signs.

No full animal was clearly seen.

No creature was seen, but something large moving on two feet approached the stakeout before fleeing downhill through brush when a car passed. Three hunters camped in a river bottom over the opening weekend of bow season. Over several days and nights they reported heavy impacts, rustling, a skunk-like odor, red eyeshine, wood knocks, whistles, talk-like mumbling, a whoop-ending vocalization, and bent trees and branch structures. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.

The relative pointed out stacked rock piles and later led the witness to a spot among trees described as a den, containing packed branches, reddish-brown hair tufts, feathers, and a strong decay-like odor. Nearby were several freshly gutted rabbits, a death-like smell, and unusually silent woods. He left to find a ranger station and returned with a ranger who photographed the site, after which both described themselves as becoming believers.
