Odor in Washington (2001)
Account
The guest and a friend backpacked into a remote Cascade valley in September 2001. While hiking they smelled a foul garbage-like odor that came and went, and later while throwing rocks by a river pool a golf-ball-sized rock was thrown at them from dense brush across the water. That night at camp they also heard a loud ground-level owl-like call, and they learned about the September 11 attacks only when hiking out.
