Two hikers on an advanced trail in the Holyoke Range heard whistles, whoops and other calls coming from both sides of the trail. They felt surrounded and followed for about a mile or roughly 45 minutes until reaching other hikers. Thick foliage prevented any visual identification of the source, which they said did not match familiar local wildlife.

The witness was clearing a trail by a swamp when they heard two splashes from across the water without seeing the source. While on the phone, they saw a football-sized rock fly through the air about three-quarters of the way across the swamp and land in the water. The witness and his wife were hiking down from a summit in the morning when they heard non-rhythmic clapping-like sounds about 100 feet away in thicker woods, with walking and branch-breaking noises between the sounds. They stopped to listen for about a minute, then advanced toward the area but found no sound or movement. Further down the trail the witness tried reproducing the sound with tree knocks, rocks, and hand claps, finding cupped hand claps matched most closely.

The witness reported seeing a tall, wide, black furry figure leaning against a tree near a dirt road while riding an ATV, then speeding home. The witness returned to the site with a relative in a vehicle, recorded video, and both watched the figure leave toward pines. An investigator later visited, marked the reported head height at over eight feet, and found no tracks in fresh snow.

The witness and a companion were on an overnight camping trip in a state forest. Around 2 AM the witness was half-awake in cold conditions when a loud distant noise was heard. The witness noted the time to locate the sound on an all-night audio recorder and later felt the recording sounded like a very loud distant wood knock from a large source.

Three people hiking in daylight near a pond had a large rock thrown toward them, with the rock striking a tree. They searched the apparent origin area and found a fresh large bass displayed on a boulder, aligned toward the path, with no other people around. An investigator later documented the rock size and photographed the pond and fish.

The witness was solo camping at a shelter while section-hiking the Appalachian Trail. After spending the evening with a fire and making whoop calls and a wood knock with no reply, the witness went to sleep in the shelter loft. Around 2:30 a.m. the witness was awakened by a loud wood knock immediately followed by a thud interpreted as a tree being pushed over, then silence.

A couple traveling north in a motor home on Route 7 near the Vermont state line claimed a daytime sighting. The wife, a front-seat passenger, spotted a very tall black upright figure in an open grassy field west of the highway. She watched for about four to five seconds as it walked steadily north toward a treeline, about 50 yards from the road edge. Both occupants said they were mystified about what the animal could have been.

The witness took additional photos of the structure and surrounding area, including a broken tree and large logs placed across a nearby trail. About an hour later on the return leg they found six fresh, very deep human-like barefoot prints with deer tracks in hard mud where they had seen nothing earlier. They took cell phone photos, grew uneasy and disoriented, and left by a different path without seeing any animal or person.

The witness looked over and saw the figure standing very close to the vehicle for about three seconds as they passed. They returned to the location shortly afterward but saw nothing and then contacted emergency dispatch.

The witness was walking down a woods road when three loud knocks were heard from brush to the left. The witness knocked back on a pine tree and received a two-knock reply, followed by another striking sound from the opposite side. The witness later found a wooden club and holes near a pond, and found a pile of feces on the trail when returning the next day.

Photographs were taken with a shoe for scale, showing deep impressions larger than the shoe. No creature was seen, and no unusual sounds or odors were noted the prior night.
