After about fifteen to twenty minutes the witness and one companion heard a loud, scream-like howl from woods about fifty yards away. The sound was described as inhuman and very loud, lasting about thirty seconds and heard only once.

While standing at the shelter in the late afternoon, something on a low ledge behind camp let out a long loud scream that ended high-pitched. The two grabbed pistols, rushed the slope, and found nothing visible despite clear viewing conditions. They spent an uneasy night and left before daylight.

Shaken, he detoured around a large cedar tree feeling intense fear, ran to the cabin, and later left the woods for two years.
