He found two live trees bent over a logging road, then heard repeated knocking sounds from the direction of his entry route. While leaving through a creek bottom at dusk, he heard rocks striking and rolling downstream several times before driving out without seeing the source.

A group of seven hikers were hiking on a mountain trail in the afternoon. They heard cackling, yelping, growling and moaning sounds and found the trail blocked by a large uprooted stump with placed boulders and smashed trees. Two upright figures, one black and one light brown and hairy, were seen moving parallel to the group and leaping down a cliff, while the group felt stalked and watched as they hurried out to the road.

On the return they heard sounds suggesting something was following them, and the women in camp reported rocks being thrown near camp and brush moving. After going to bed the group heard a loud screech/scream twice, and before sunrise one woman was awakened by a close growl near the tent. No creature was seen.

This was followed by about five minutes of very scary howling and screaming sounds ending with chirps. The family dog reacted fearfully and would not leave the porch. The witness later said the sounds matched online recordings of alleged vocalizations.

When the witness approached palmettos to check a noise, he saw eyes, heard a growl, and watched the creature stand to about nine feet tall. In late May 2005 the witness and a companion waited in dense woods by a river after dark. After the witness imitated howls, something within about 200 yards answered with repeated loud deep growls, followed by about a minute of chattering from two directions. Later the witness struck a tree with a stick and heard similar loud banging from across the river for one to two minutes. The pair heard nothing else except insects and coyotes, and never saw the sources.

After about an hour they heard loud thuds like heavy footsteps circling the campsite and limbs breaking, approaching within a few feet of the tent. They then heard deep gorilla-like grunts before the sounds moved away toward a creek, and they remained in the tent frightened until daylight without seeing anything.

Moments later a baseball-sized rock landed where the witness had just been standing, with no visible source. The pair then heard loud wood-on-wood impacts first ahead on the hill and then behind them, which they could not explain. They reported no sighting, odor, or footprints, and nearby hikers with dogs showed no unusual reaction.

A family of three walking with their dog on a de-activated service road stopped briefly when they heard a deep growl and noticed a strong musky odor. The husband saw a large black bipedal figure running through the bushes parallel to the road about 80 yards away. The sounds moved behind him about thirty feet and then stopped abruptly without fading into the distance, which he later interpreted as the same group of creatures.

Two people talking in a residential driveway at night heard an extremely loud, deep howl/growl/moan echo across the valley three times over about one to two minutes. Dogs in the area barked and the witness's dog then shivered and stared toward the hill behind the house before retreating to its doghouse. The witnesses felt frightened and said the sound was unlike known local wildlife. No source was seen and no further sounds were heard that night.

Late at night the witness heard loud, complex bark- and growl-like vocalizations coming from a ravine near the house. The sounds were described as louder and more structured than dogs, coyotes, or other familiar animals, and local dogs began barking during the episode. The next day the witness found trampled vegetation, a coyote carcass, tarp pieces, a dog dish, and scat near the estimated sound source.

The tracks were photographed the following day after warm weather had largely melted them, and the photos were later judged too indistinct to include.

The witness was outside a remote cottage watching a total lunar eclipse late at night when two extremely loud scream-like howls were heard at very close range. The sound was described as starting as a wolf-like howl and shifting to an immense roar, with apparent rapid movement from about 100 yards away to about 25 yards within seconds. No animal was seen, and the volume suggested a large animal to the witness.

The witness was tent-camping with extended family in a lakeside marshy forest area. Late at night she and her daughter heard heavy footsteps and a quiet grunt or growl near their tent, initially mistaking it for her husband. Much later she and two other adult women in separate tents were awakened by a single loud whoop-like cry, while her daughter heard a mechanical sound but not the cry.

The witness was bow hunting and walking a fire trail near dark when he found a large human-shaped footprint and photographed it and the surrounding woods. While photographing he noticed a strong layered odor of sour sweat, decaying flesh and musk. After walking back to his truck after dark, something growled at close range for 1-2 seconds, but a flashlight search revealed nothing and he left to develop the film.
