The witness drove to a friend's rural house at night and while walking to the door heard large bipedal footsteps paralleling him from woods 30-40 yards away. The steps stopped when he stopped and resumed when he walked. He told his friend inside, but the sound was gone when they came back out.

Two brothers parked for a late-night talk on a forest road when heavy footsteps surrounded the car on several sides and powerful growls approached the rear. After repositioning the car in moonlight they saw a dark shape shifting in a tree, heard heavy breathing, and watched a very tall muscular dark creature cross the road and peer from behind a stump. A second slender gray creature leapt across the road, the large one dropped to all fours and left, and the brothers later realized hours had passed.

A semi-truck driver traveling east on Highway 30 through the Des Moines River valley at twilight saw three deer run across the road ahead, followed about 75 yards behind by a tall hairy biped apparently chasing them. The sound slowed, sped up, or stopped with the witness, paused near houses, then resumed in wooded stretches for about a mile. No source was ever seen due to fog and cover, and the witness felt the terrain was too rough to be easily matched by a person.

While driving home from school in the afternoon, the witness noticed a tall, brown, hair-covered human-shaped figure standing at the tree line beside soccer fields. The figure was still and was gone when the witness glanced away and back. An investigator later summarized the description as a massive 8-foot-tall animal with very long flowing hair seen from about 150 feet away.

While preparing to photograph the deer, the group heard an extremely loud scream from very close range, followed by the sound of something large crashing away through the woods toward a swamp. They saw nothing when they shone lights into the woods and quickly left with the deer without field-dressing it.
