On a weekend morning the witness and two companions walked down a trail toward the back fields and noticed a strong odor of death and wet dog. The witness saw a small hairy juvenile peeking from behind what proved to be the leg of a very large female standing motionless in a clearing. After he pointed at her she roared, the group fled while hearing screams, howls and chatter around them, and the next morning a large log they played on was found broken.

When he stepped toward it, the shape stood up, turned, and crashed through the alders and down over a hill toward a creek while he ran home. The sounds lasted about 30 seconds and were interpreted as a biped moving quickly, apparently pursued by barking dogs. After the crashing stopped, a dog was heard yelping as if badly injured, then silence fell. The next morning the witness found broken vegetation but no clear sign of its cause and moved camp.

Four college geology students camping at night heard howling from a canyon and then saw the outline of a huge bipedal animal on the road in moon and campfire light. When the animal approached, one student fired a rifle several times, after which it crossed the road and moved noisily up the opposite slope through brush. A responding deputy examined the area the next day and reported indistinct impressions, small pushed-over trees and long uphill strides, but no blood or fur.

Near the site of a previously found stick shelter they heard a tree snap and crash nearby, then turned back while snapping sounds seemed to follow them to the clearing.

When he looked again it was gone, and companions arriving minutes later saw only broken brush and hair. He kept the account secret for decades until later seeing films that matched his memory.

The witness and relatives were camped overnight when a foul stench filled the air and an extremely loud scream beginning as a growl was heard. The dog hid, and rounds fired into the air temporarily drove the source away, but it returned repeatedly until dawn despite a large fire. Nothing was ever seen and no unusual tracks were found, though a nearby stand of broken saplings carried the same odor.

The witness and his wife returned in late January to a rock grotto where he had earlier found a possible bedding area. They found the bed intact but an old wagon moved from a ledge with drag marks in the rock. As they hiked out through a ravine, unseen actors on both ridges followed them for about an hour with knocks, whistles and other vocalizations, shaking and snapping saplings and throwing rocks until the pair reached the woods edge. Neither reported seeing anything.

Hundreds of very large footprints were found in hard river silt and followed for about two miles up the riverbank and into dense bush. The maker reportedly dug with its toes on a hillside climb and grabbed trees, uprooting smaller ones. The account was relayed by a relative of the tracker, with a track photograph later reported to exist.

A teenager and an older neighbor spent the night on a boat at a marina to catch suspected vandals. During the night the teenager saw a huge hair-covered figure crouched at an overturned trashcan scooping garbage, then stand upright and stare briefly. The figure stepped over the trashcan, sprang up an embankment, and disappeared into brush, leaving disturbed dew, strewn garbage, and broken brush.

Three elk hunters walking back toward camp heard a loud crash and chased what they assumed was a bull elk to the rim of a deep, steep-sided canyon. From across the canyon the reporter watched through a rifle scope as a tall, black-haired biped ran up the opposite slope on two feet and briefly turned to show its face in profile before entering the trees. The group chose not to pursue closely, later backtracked the trail toward the highway, and examined broken vegetation and footprints the following day.

In mid-summer 1970 the witness was driving along the Sandy River looking for a place to target shoot when he found saplings snapped off with the tops formed into a large bedding area. Nearby were several freshly gutted rabbits, a death-like smell, and unusually silent woods. He left to find a ranger station and returned with a ranger who photographed the site, after which both described themselves as becoming believers.

Later that same night while sleeping near a low bedroom window, a much larger hairy face appeared at the glass, made eye contact, shifted its eyes, wrinkled its brow and opened a wide mouth showing pointed teeth. The witness fled to a parent's room while heavy pacing was felt and heard around the house, then police were called but found nothing. The next morning the witness found large prints around windows and garden, recalled repeated early-morning howls, a growl with a branch breaking, grunting in the basement and a violently shaking backyard tree.

Two companions were hiking a faint trail in late afternoon to scout a fishing spot for the next morning. From a short distance ahead they heard an extremely loud, high-pitched scream that continued without pause for minutes. As they retreated, trees were heard and seen breaking and falling along a nearby ridge as the unseen source moved parallel to them. They never saw the source and left the area without returning.

The witness was sleeping in a cabin during a summer camp session when loud nighttime noises caused an uproar. A cabin-mate reportedly looked out and described multiple large, hairy, human-like figures near the water tower and cabins. The next morning the witness saw extensive human-like footprints, a large uprooted tree, and vegetation pulled from the lake. Campers were walked around the perimeter to view the traces and were sent home early.

The witness went deer hunting before dawn on the Missouri side of the river after fresh snow. He found large human-like barefoot tracks in the snow and followed them a short distance. The trackway went along a field edge, backtracked inside the woods, and led to willow saplings with bark stripped off, then continued into thick brush toward the river. He did not see the trackmaker and stopped tracking to continue hunting.
