The witness and her husband were driving on a narrow gravel road looking for deer in the early afternoon when they noticed a large brown hairy figure bent over near a pine thicket. The figure then stood upright on two legs, showing long arms, broad shoulders, and an estimated 7- to 8-foot height, before running quickly into the thicket. The pair returned the next morning and reported finding small and large footprints, hair on a fence, damaged fencing and poles, and a persimmon with no nearby tree.

In the early morning hours the trailer began rocking violently from side to side, waking the occupants, who armed themselves and went outside but saw and heard nothing further. At daybreak they found indistinct ground marks and large smudged marks high on the trailer's rear corners, concluded an unknown animal had grabbed and rocked the trailer, and left the area.

A woman took three children to play in a shallow river area in the evening. After hearing responsive whistling sounds and a tree being pushed down nearby, the group fled to their vehicle. The child who briefly lagged behind later described seeing a brown hair-covered creature walking toward him.
Gold dredgers have afternoon encounter in Cherokee National Forest
Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

The witness was fishing downstream from family members when he briefly saw the lower legs of a dark figure stepping from the creek onto the bank and into dense brush. He searched the spot and found wet marks on rocks, disturbed soil, and dung, which companions helped videotape. He concluded the figure was unlikely to be human given the remote, rugged terrain.

The investigator describes a 2000 case near Smith Mountain Lake involving a family experiencing poltergeist activity, orbs in the hallway, triangular UFOs and lights in the woods, crop circles, and woman-like screams. A witness went to fill deer feeders in a river bottom in late afternoon and found a feeder tangled in a tree. While investigating, the witness followed glimpses of a shaggy animal through thick cover to a river crossing where it stepped into the open and was seen upright for about 10 seconds before leaving. After it left, the witness heard a loud snap behind and left the area.

The headlights illuminated a tall, greyish hairy figure standing on two legs and leaning on a wire fence beside a cornfield. After a few seconds the figure turned and ran on two legs into the corn toward nearby woods.

Two people fishing from a dock in the evening heard a powerful roaring scream from the west along the lake. About half a minute later a fisherman came running from the direction of the sound, appearing panicked. The two joined him and all three ran together back to the nearby campground, where he said something had been right next to him. They then broke camp and drove home.

The witness was hiking with family on a trail near their campsite at midday. He noticed a stump-like shape in a sunlit area that suddenly stood and ran away bipedally for about 100 yards. Late one summer evening in 1998, a couple lying in bed in their trailer heard repeated loud screams and their dogs became highly agitated. The husband went outside with a flashlight and saw red-orange eyeshine well above normal human face height, then a tall upright shadow running toward the southwest. No further screams occurred and the dogs stayed agitated for 10-15 minutes. The couple decided not to call emergency services.

While driving on a forest road in the early morning to find a campsite, the witness and a relative noticed an orange glow in a roadside stand of trees. The witness was camping alone in a tall tent when something large approached at night. A tall shadow with broad shoulders was cast on the tent by an outside lantern. The visitor opened food containers, ate bread, growled, overturned a cooler and carried off meat before leaving toward the river where vocalizations were heard. Large footprints and teeth marks were found the following morning.

The witness was studying at home late at night when a tethered dog and nearby livestock became highly agitated. The witness went to the front door with a pistol and flashlight and saw a large figure crouched in tall grass outside a hot-wire fence. A later search of the area found only disturbed grass and no footprints.
