RECENT (GOOD BET for a one-nighter): Whoops and knocks heard at Forlorn Lakes
The witness was sleeping in a tent at a remote campground when they awoke abruptly around 2 a.m. They heard several loud, low-pitched whoop-like grunts from a short distance behind the tent, apparently exchanged between two individuals. This was followed by several loud wood knocks that also seemed to be an exchange between two sources. After about an hour of silence the witness fell back asleep while companions remained asleep.

The witness was hiking alone and stopped for water when loud wood knocking lasting 10-15 seconds was heard. The witness made phone recordings that captured one loud knock plus fainter knocks believed to come from three locations. Two people were camped for the night after hiking when they heard wood knocks exchanged back and forth from different directions for about four minutes. One of them shouted to scare off a possible animal, after which the knocking stopped. They reported no visual contact, walking sounds, or odor.

In April 2013 the guest took his teenage son camping at a just-opened campground off Highway 14 along the Columbia River. During a daytime walk they found an old large track, opened clam shells out of place, a fresh vine-maple twist tucked behind a fir, an 18-inch footprint beneath it, and several pushed or tossed trees. That night in camp they heard branch-breaking, felt the tarps pulled, heard splashing, felt vibration waves, and heard two wood knocks before leaving exhausted in the morning.

During a late-season muzzleloader elk hunt the witness and a companion found a large five-toed barefoot print in semi-frozen ground. That evening while glassing a prairie they heard a loud knock from about 150 yards away. The next morning they found three more large prints of the same size and shape in a sandy wash, spaced about 80 inches apart, with one beyond a log showing no break in stride.

The witness stopped on a bridge over a washed-out creek to videotape the creek bed while sightseeing. While filming he heard heavy wood-on-wood strikes from the left answered from the right at varying intervals, which he verified was not an echo. Feeling anxious, he returned to his idling vehicle and left, and a relative later reviewed the tape where the beats were faintly audible and recorded an interview with the witness that evening.
