Possible encounter while hunting near Northfield Falls
On two November 2015 mornings the witness sat in a remote hunting spot before sunrise and heard close-range tree breaks and knocks followed by a scream/whoop vocalization shortly after turning off a light. Conditions were clear, cold and very quiet on both occasions. The witness, an experienced outdoors person, said nothing like it had happened before or since.
Couple have possible early morning sighting while driving outside Brattleboro
The witness and their spouse were driving east on Route 9 around 5:30 a.m. when their headlights illuminated a small bipedal figure crossing the road. The figure ran very fast into swampy reeds near a brook and disappeared. They did not stop, and said it did not match any familiar local animal.
Possible footprints found by a hiker on Mt. Ascutney
On May 24, 2015 the witness was hiking for pleasure when she found two very large footprints near a tree by the trail. She photographed and measured the impressions, then found additional large prints and a possible knuckle impression on her way back to the parking area. She returned several days later to make plaster casts, but rain and leaf litter made the casts poor.
Possible stalking at Hildene Mansion grounds, near Manchester
The witness was camping on the mansion grounds for a re-enactment event. Late Saturday night the witness sat around a campfire at the edge of the woods with two companions and heard footsteps moving inside the woods. They shined a flashlight toward the sound and it stopped, then resumed moving away after the light was turned off. No source was seen.
Possible prowling at TinkerBrook shelter in Calvin Coolidge State Forest
The witness and a relative camped overnight in a remote lean-to shelter in a forested ravine. After going to sleep, both were awakened by repeated knocking and pushing sensations against the shelter that continued intermittently until about 3 a.m. The witness checked outside with a flashlight but saw nothing, and a morning search found no damage or tracks, so they left without staying another night.
Family discovers fresh footprints in the snow while cutting down a Christmas tree
The witness family went into the woods in deep fresh snow to cut a Christmas tree. They found large footprints that crossed a pond and continued into a hemlock grove, with prints 12 to 14 inches long and a stride estimated at six feet. Something appeared to have stepped over a small leaf-covered tree without knocking leaves off, and the family dog barked intensely, leading the witness to feel they had just missed whatever made the tracks.
Highpitched vocalizations heard near Morrisville
The witness was visiting a relative's remote cabin in Vermont late at night when the group heard a loud, child-like screaming approaching from a wooded ridge. The source was described as moving quickly along the ridge and disturbing dogs as it passed. It approached to within about 100 feet of the porch where the witness stood with a relative, then turned and left down the valley. The only visual was a dark shape with eyeshine about four feet off the ground, and the source was never identified.
