Family discovers fresh footprints in the snow while cutting down a Christmas tree

They found large footprints that crossed a pond and continued into a hemlock grove, with prints 12 to 14 inches long and a stride estimated at six feet. Something appeared to have stepped over a small leaf-covered tree without knocking leaves off, and the family dog barked intensely, leading the witness to feel they had just missed whatever made the tracks.
