The witness hiked into a wilderness lake to fish from the shore. While fishing, the witness noticed a very foul odor, then heard sounds like something striking a tree, followed by a high-pitched howling/scream-like sound and more tree-striking sounds. Feeling watched and unnerved, the witness left the area, and on the trail out noticed fresh broken branches on a pine tree.

An investigator spent the morning searching fields, a cemetery, and surrounding woods after hearing about a recent local sighting. Rain had washed away possible tracks and the ground was hard, so no footprints were found. In the woods at the cemetery edge the investigator found a fresh snapped sapling and photographed it. The investigator also spoke with nearby residents, including a child who relayed a mother's nighttime driveway encounter, but no creature was seen during the visit.

A group of six hiked down a mountain trail in the afternoon. A hair-covered biped crossed the trail between the lead hiker and the next person and leapt down an embankment into trees. The party glimpsed movement and heard crashing as a dog chased it, then watched a distant burnt tree sway with creaking before falling. Believing the creature pushed the tree over, the group left quickly.

The witness's family discovered a long trail of large footprints on their hunting property on a winter weekend in 1991. As they circled back, an unseen animal tracked them, producing a strong foul odor and a high-pitched squeal before thrashing off toward the mother waiting at the truck. They later found uprooted small trees, additional tracks in camp, hair on fencing, and a woody debris structure, and heard screaming and a howl that prompted a relative to leave camp.

The witness was leading a small ROTC patrol on a nighttime escape-and-evasion exercise along creek and cliff trails. The group heard movement and walking above them with small rocks falling, found no one when they climbed to search, then heard heavy running footsteps and branches being swiped aside approaching them that caused the patrol to flee to a field edge. The opposing unit later said it never left base, and a next-day visit found snapped branches above head height but no tracks.

At daybreak they found snapped trees, uprooted brush, and heavily disturbed ground in the direction of the sounds.

The witness and a friend were walking their dog on a trail when the dog lunged up a steep embankment toward loud crunching and branch-breaking sounds from above. They followed a short way to the top of a ridge but the source of the noise was gone. On top they found freshly broken lower tree branches up to 10 feet high and foot-like impressions in the duff without claw marks, then returned cross-country to the trail.
