They did not see anything, kept lights off out of fear, and then heard what sounded like several large creatures retreating to the tree line. The next day they found pushed-over bushes and freshly broken branches.

The contractors reported having rocks thrown at them over two days, with one rock hitting a worker, followed on two later evenings by loud growls from woods only yards behind them. On the ninth night of solo primitive camping, the witness was lying awake in a tent when a very loud thud sounded in front of the tent. Movement was then heard in palmettos beside the tent, followed by human-like whistles exchanged from opposite sides and a guttural growl from behind the tent. The witness stayed inside without looking out and found a snapped limb nearby the next morning before leaving camp early.

The sounds were described as louder and more structured than dogs, coyotes, or other familiar animals, and local dogs began barking during the episode. The next day the witness found trampled vegetation, a coyote carcass, tarp pieces, a dog dish, and scat near the estimated sound source.
