While heading back, the witness struck a stick to make wood knocks and heard replies that matched his signals, first one knock, then three, then rapid knocking. He answered with rapid knocks, after which the sounds stopped and further knocking got no response. Both individuals heard the exchange and thought it was either another person or a Sasquatch.

After midnight an on-duty officer searching for a stolen snowmobile along a river heard loud crashing and heavy running in a treeline. He then found large human-like footprints in snow, with two larger sets and one smaller set, showing a long stride and signs of running. He and two deputies photographed the tracks and interpreted the trail as individuals scouting, pausing, and circling before leaving, then withdrew from the area.

Most nights they heard moaning/howling and reciprocal wood knocks that seemed to move closer, and one night heard growls outside the tent but saw nothing when they rushed out with guns and flashlights. Twice they returned from hunting to find trees blocking or inside camp, including a large healthy green pine pushed over. After losing sleep they left for a family cabin and returned next morning to find the tent zipper partly open with the lantern still on.

He reported hearing noises through the rest of the night and finding a few tracks afterward.

During a daytime walk in a dry creek bed, the witness and a companion found two large human-like footprints.
