The husband searched with lights and briefly saw movement in the trees about 30 feet away, including what looked like a large dark lower leg. On the first night outside the house he reported paired knocking sounds, stones hitting the roof, and a brief glimpse of gray movement. Others sheltering in the trailer also heard footsteps, breaking branches, impacts, and a heavy sigh, and later a branch-like object was dragged across the trailer roof.

Around 3 a.m. the witness heard a very loud whoop-like vocalization nearby that ended in a bird-like sound, followed shortly by a distant answering call. When the witness shone a flashlight toward the treeline, something nearby fled at a jog, producing audible heavy footsteps. The companion later reported hearing another more distant vocalization, and a morning search found no clear tracks in dense underbrush.
