Couple camping NW of Mt. Rainier hear loud vocals and footsteps

The witness and a companion camped overnight in a wooded area. Around 3 a.m. the witness heard a very loud whoop-like vocalization nearby that ended in a bird-like sound, followed shortly by a distant answering call. When the witness shone a flashlight toward the treeline, something nearby fled at a jog, producing audible heavy footsteps. The companion later reported hearing another more distant vocalization, and a morning search found no clear tracks in dense underbrush.
