The witness was hunting squirrels alone late in the afternoon along an old road near a swamp. The witness then saw a tall reddish hairy creature cross the road behind them in one step and run into the brush, then ran to the truck and left.

The witness and a companion were sitting at their campsite campfire at night when they heard loud canine-like howl and whoop calls from multiple directions, approaching to within about 35 yards. The calls were described as deeper and louder than coyote or wolf, followed by fast gutteral sounds likened to a language or argument between two animals. The pair ruled out known animals and a human prank after hearing a second matching voice upstream. The vocal exchange lasted about five to seven minutes before the animals appeared to move away upstream over a bluff.

In the middle of the night a heavy bipedal-sounding walker approached and stopped beside the witness's tent, where breathing, soft growls, sniffing, and a strong unfamiliar odor were perceived through the fabric. After a few minutes it walked away breaking branches. The companion slept through the event and later suggested a bear, which the witness rejected.
