Hunters hear aggressive yells and knocks near Addy for over an hour
Two hunters walking on an old logging road just before dark heard a very loud breathy yell and a stick-like strike from dense brush about 50 feet away. Over about an hour they heard dozens of repeated yells, each followed by one or two knocks, and saw no other people in the area. They returned to their hunting spots with rifles loaded and later thought the sounds matched yelling and wood knocking shown on a Bigfoot television program.

The witness and a relative stopped during a camping road trip to walk along the highway and film. After turning off the camera due to low battery, they noticed a distant foul smell from a canyon and then heard barking and yelping from a nearby mountain that did not sound like a dog. They tried to record the sound but it stopped before the camera could be turned on, and they turned back.

The witness's husband woke afterward and also heard the distant calls, and both said they had never heard such sounds in decades living in the area.

The witness and a friend were camping on the witness's family farm land and had a large fire going. Something began beating on a tree, with knocks that got closer, louder, and shook the ground. The witness knocked back on a tree, after which the sounds got very close and frightening, so they fled in a jeep and found nothing the next morning.

After the dog returned frightened and stayed close, the pair tried to walk out in darkness with failing lights. For an hour or two they heard something large circling them with heavy footfalls and crashing vegetation and small trees breaking nearby, but they never saw the source.

In early autumn at mid-day the witness was burning damp feed sacks behind a bunkhouse when a flare-up was followed by a startled sound behind him. He turned and saw a tall reddish-brown biped run upright into virgin woods and disappear within seconds. He later returned with a gun for safety but found no tracks because of leaves and ground clutter.

While photographing he noticed a strong layered odor of sour sweat, decaying flesh and musk. While hunting elk at dusk, the witness and a companion climbed out of a draw and surprised a tall black hair-covered creature about 30 feet away. The creature made a loud whoof sound as it moved into a small stand of pines, displacing a bough. After the pair backed away, it gave a low guttural growl ending with teeth clicking, frightening them enough to leave.

They heard deep grunting sounds from the woods, then later heard two loud scream-like vocalizations from different sides of the road, one a few hundred yards away and one within about 50 yards. They stated the screams started as a low moan and rose to a high-pitched screech and were unlike any known local animal sounds.

The witness parked her truck near Lake Oroville before sunrise to photograph valley lights. While sitting with the driver window down, she heard a loud angry roar that rapidly approached from behind and stopped at the rear passenger side of the truck. Two men camped overnight in a wooded hill area. After they went to bed, the man awake in his tent heard a strange loud whooping vocalization that seemed to come down a ridge toward camp, get very close, then move away behind them. He tried to look outside but saw nothing and noted the woods were unusually quiet with no brush or twig sounds. His companion slept through the whole episode.

The witness backpacked to Deadman's Lake for a one-night stay during elk season. Before dark he heard a distant howl, then at about 11:24 p.m. he was awakened by a loud high-pitched screaming howl from the meadow next to his camp. He opened the tent with a light and camera but saw nothing and did not hear the sound again, though nearby owls called afterward. In the morning he searched and found only elk and no unusual sign before packing out as weather turned.

The witness and two companions were hunting deer and elk around a large meadow in the evening. While waiting on a trail for elk to be pushed, the witness heard a rhythmic, low, hollow whistle-like alarmed call move across a field for about ten to fifteen minutes without seeing any source. After the sound stopped the witness walked down to join a companion and heard it again briefly from across the trail, which the companion was unsure he heard. A third hunter who had already returned to the vehicle said he had not reached the field and had heard nothing.

The witness was awakened around 3 a.m. by very loud, clear repetitive whooping calls near the house, with a second more distant caller responding. Around 4-4:15 a.m. the calls resumed louder and closer, alarming the dog, prompting the witness to check sheep, goats and chickens with a flashlight and see nothing, after which the calls stopped. The witness could not match the sound to any known local animal.
