Grouse twice left on trail for hiker
Account
On June 5th 2004 the witness was leading a group at a large archaeological site when the witness struck a large branch against a dry pine to try calling a response. No response was heard at the time. About four hundred yards along the exit trail the group found a dead grouse placed in the middle of the trail with wings tucked, still slightly warm, interpreted as a fresh placement similar to an earlier find.

About two and a half months after the June visit the witness returned to the valley edge to find the dry pine used for knocking smashed with a twisted branch, photographed it and later collected hair analyzed as possible lichen.
