The witness and a companion were hunting raccoons at night with a hound that first treed a raccoon then pursued another animal through forest. After the dog returned frightened and stayed close, the pair tried to walk out in darkness with failing lights. For an hour or two they heard something large circling them with heavy footfalls and crashing vegetation and small trees breaking nearby, but they never saw the source.

In early autumn at mid-day the witness was burning damp feed sacks behind a bunkhouse when a flare-up was followed by a startled sound behind him. He turned and saw a tall reddish-brown biped run upright into virgin woods and disappear within seconds. While hunting elk at dusk, the witness and a companion climbed out of a draw and surprised a tall black hair-covered creature about 30 feet away. The creature made a loud whoof sound as it moved into a small stand of pines, displacing a bough. After the pair backed away, it gave a low guttural growl ending with teeth clicking, frightening them enough to leave.

On the first night of an October 2004 expedition, four participants walked a stretch of mountain road making wood knocks. They heard deep grunting sounds from the woods, then later heard two loud scream-like vocalizations from different sides of the road, one a few hundred yards away and one within about 50 yards. They stated the screams started as a low moan and rose to a high-pitched screech and were unlike any known local animal sounds.

During the night they heard loud calling sounds from across the river and later heard movement around the campsite, including grunt-like sounds beside the van. About four hundred yards along the exit trail the group found a dead grouse placed in the middle of the trail with wings tucked, still slightly warm, interpreted as a fresh placement similar to an earlier find.

The witness parked her truck near Lake Oroville before sunrise to photograph valley lights. While sitting with the driver window down, she heard a loud angry roar that rapidly approached from behind and stopped at the rear passenger side of the truck. She saw nothing in the darkness and drove away frightened.

The witness backpacked to Deadman's Lake for a one-night stay during elk season. Before dark he heard a distant howl, then at about 11:24 p.m. he was awakened by a loud high-pitched screaming howl from the meadow next to his camp. He opened the tent with a light and camera but saw nothing and did not hear the sound again, though nearby owls called afterward. In the morning he searched and found only elk and no unusual sign before packing out as weather turned.

The witness was awakened around 3 a.m. by very loud, clear repetitive whooping calls near the house, with a second more distant caller responding. Around 4-4:15 a.m. the calls resumed louder and closer, alarming the dog, prompting the witness to check sheep, goats and chickens with a flashlight and see nothing, after which the calls stopped. The witness could not match the sound to any known local animal.

The witness reports a very loud simultaneous whistle, scream and growl coming from about 70 feet across the road from the cabin. The sound was heard by the witness and five other people and was described as unlike any known animal. An investigator later interviewed the witness and companions about the vocalization and noted inconclusive evidence in the area.

From about 10 feet away they heard loud cracking in brush and saw it moving violently, then heard and felt two or three extremely heavy steps moving away. The witness threw rocks toward the sounds thinking it was a bear, but the noises continued, so the family packed up and left without further incident.

Late at night the eyewitness went outside to work on a trailer and used a flashlight to check a noise. The light reflected off eyes on a nearby bank, revealing a large hair-covered human-like creature squatting a short distance away. The creature turned its head away from the light, and the eyewitness went back inside to call a relative. When the door was reopened, the creature was heard retreating through the woods while vocalizing.

The witness was walking with a dog on a dirt road in the early evening when the dog became agitated and aggressive. The witness heard grunting and movement in nearby woods, then saw a large hair-covered biped rise from behind a fallen tree and retreat into the woods. The dog chased the creature while the witness ran home, and the dog returned later unharmed. A strong road-kill-like odor was noted around the time of the sighting.

While camping alone during an archery hunt, the witness was awake in the tent around 4 a.m. listening for elk. A low growl was heard from very close, followed by a loud scraping sound and a thud/stomp from trees 2-3 feet from the tent. The witness made noise and went outside yelling with an axe but heard nothing further and saw nothing.

The witness was elk hunting with a companion in the evening near a pickup. After hearing loud movement coming downhill, the witness briefly saw a bipedal figure running along a ridge through burned trees, then heard loud screams. The companion also heard the screams over the radio and in person as they met to discuss it.

The witness explored a clearcut in Coos County Forest looking for hiking routes and found a bare footprint larger than his boot with visible toes. After rain washed the area, he returned and found additional larger and smaller impressions with a roughly six-foot stride, and later found similar long impressions on harder ground nearby. On a return visit he also heard repeated short whistle-like sounds receding from the creek area but saw no source.

A couple having a picnic hiked a short distance into the woods with their dog when they heard loud howling noises that seemed to move parallel to them. They then watched a nearly 8-foot-tall dark figure looking at them for about 10 seconds before it walked upright away deeper into the woods. After returning to their picnic area they heard very loud vocalizations again nearby, believed it had followed them, and ran for their vehicle.
