The witness was riding horseback at night near a creek confluence when a loud raspy scream was heard repeatedly from about 40 yards away in the creek. A second animal to the east answered with a loud whistle and rapid grunts. After turning on lights the witness saw eyeshine from the creek, lost it, then later saw two pairs of eyes on the far bank that turned and moved away.

Two deer hunters hiking back to camp at dusk near Heart Lake heard loud bellowing howls and watched a deer flee through brush. They then saw a tall dark figure on the ridgeline that first resembled a standing bear but looked like neither a bear nor a man through a rifle scope. The figure ran downhill after the deer and disappeared into brush, and the hunters later found a very large footprint where it had stood.

After confirming by radio that no other participants were nearby or knocking, the witness knocked back and received an immediate two-knock reply from slightly farther away. Further knocks and whoops over about 30 minutes drew no additional replies, and no movement or odor was noticed. The witness then returned to camp and later revisited the area by ATV with others.
