Man recalls childhood incident, possible sighting outside home near Fort Frances
The witness woke in bed at night and saw a large silhouetted figure with wide shoulders looking through a high bedroom window for about five minutes. The figure appeared to watch and breathe loudly, moving slightly when the witness moved, then turned and left. The witness ran to a parent, who went outside, saw nothing but noticed a strong smell. By morning two pet rabbits kept outside were gone, with no damage to the cage.

The writer's brother was driving alone late at night on Skyball Mountain when he smelled a strong odor. He saw a large dark hair-covered figure in tall weeds beside the road that stepped onto the road and stared at him while he stopped and watched for a minute or more. A couple days later in the same Idaho hunt, the group drove before dawn in snow and watched a dark stump-like shape widen and slide slowly across the road out of headlight range. The witness once saw the hairy backside of a large figure running into the hollows, and a friend who teased its speech and threw a rock was chased. A teacher and companions are said to have encountered a tall creature on at least six occasions near an old bridge in Cooke County, Texas. The encounters occurred at night from a vehicle, with the figure seen as a tall silhouette in headlights and heard making threatening noises while moving through brush. On one occasion the creature was described as bouncing a limb, whose height was measured the next day, and daytime searches reportedly found bones in the creek. Shots were allegedly fired at the creature without apparent effect.

They heard sloshing in the water and later saw a large figure run across the road ahead of the headlights and heard heavy steps in sagebrush. Using a spotlight they glimpsed a tall dark primate-like figure cross in front of a large boulder and enter dense timber.

Two hunters on a hillside noticed movement below them and went downhill to investigate but found nothing. About 5-10 minutes later after climbing back to the trail they found large deep footprints overlying their own earlier footprints. They followed the prints for about a mile to a vantage point where the trail ahead was empty, then gave up and returned.

The witness was driving slowly on a rural road at night to bring awards to a scout campout when a hair-covered biped stepped over a fence into the road. She stopped close to it, stepped out behind her car door, and watched it for about a minute under her headlights while noting red glowing eyes and a musky odor and feeling calm. The biped then crossed the road, stepped over the opposite fence, paused to look back, and strode toward trees out of sight.

While tracking a wounded buck down the mountain at dusk, the witness heard parallel movement with breaking limbs, rustling leaves, a grunt and a growl. The sounds mirrored the witness's own stops and starts and at times fell silent. The witness fled through a briar patch to a truck, heard grunting again behind, and never saw the source.

With eyes kept shut, the witness heard something walking in the water, noticed a strong urine-like odor, and felt something brush their hair during an encounter lasting several minutes. At daybreak, very large foot-like indentations were found in dry and wet sand around the sleeping area, campfire and tent.

Four people sleeping outdoors beside a river were awakened around 2 a.m. by loud screaming from across the river. The source paced the far bank, crossed the river, snapped a fallen log, approached within 10 feet while screaming and giving off a strong odor, then recrossed the river and left up the hill over about 25 minutes. Nothing was seen because it was pitch dark.

As they walked they heard loud cracks, pops and snaps from the treeline that seemed to parallel their movement, smelled rotten garbage, and the dog became fearful. Near the site of a previously found stick shelter they heard a tree snap and crash nearby, then turned back while snapping sounds seemed to follow them to the clearing.

The witness was camping by a pond with family and stayed up late by the campfire. Around 1 a.m. he heard noise in the cattails across the pond and approached with a flashlight. A tall hair-covered figure stood up, screeched, faced him briefly, then walked toward the forest like a man. He later found flattened cattails and a strong urine odor at the spot.
