The next morning their uncle turned pale when told and warned them to stay out of the back.

The witness fled to a parent's room while heavy pacing was felt and heard around the house, then police were called but found nothing. The next morning the witness found large prints around windows and garden, recalled repeated early-morning howls, a growl with a branch breaking, grunting in the basement and a violently shaking backyard tree.
