They glimpsed an ape-like biped charging away through thick brush, breaking limbs and leaving a foul odor. Afterwards they noted disturbed rocks and a partial heel print that later dried out and was not photographed.

He smelled a terrible odor and was paced by something unseen that stopped when he stopped, then heard screaming, breaking limbs, and saw a large log thrown and trees violently shaking. He fled in the canoe to the center of the river.

On the first night in a long-empty cabin the witness heard hours of loud cracking and later found large bark strips lined up on the ground. The next afternoon he and his son smelled a strong odor and found a large scat pile by the cabin steps. The following evening all three heard a long powerful scream nearby and searched with a flashlight without finding the source.

In the evening the witness walked east of camp, noticed a strong foul smell and heard vegetation breaking nearby before running back to the group. Overnight the campers were awakened by sounds around the camp followed by a loud crash, and by morning the food hung high above ground was gone, the supporting limb was damaged, and a foul smell lingered. The group then packed and left the area.

The witness group was camped in a Sierra County campground and walked to an outhouse at night with a small flashlight. The witness shone the light toward the outhouse area below the trail and saw two red eyes that appeared to crouch down, then quickly returned to camp. A foul odor noticed around the outhouse lessened when others checked shortly after, and the next morning the group found small uprooted trees and no odor, estimating the eyes had been 7 to 8 feet off the ground.

No creature was seen, but something large moving on two feet approached the stakeout before fleeing downhill through brush when a car passed. Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

The witness, then a child, was sleeping in the family's A-frame when very loud, high-pitched screams from behind the house woke the household. The father fired a handgun from a loft window and later used a spotlight, hearing something move away upslope but never seeing the source. The witness, then about 11, went with his father to a surveyor's home in deep East Texas and followed the surveyor's young son down a thin trail behind the house to a deadfall. The son gave whooping calls, after which the witness heard approaching footsteps, heavy breathing like a horse, a deep word-like vocalization and a powerful percussive sound, then breaking limbs. The witness fled back to the house as a tall dark figure ran alongside through the brush, stopping when he screamed for his father.

Three children walking on a wooded footpath noticed a tall female-like figure with a smaller juvenile standing by a tree off to the side. The larger figure stared at them, gave off a dead-animal smell, stepped toward them, growled and bared its teeth after being pointed out. The group fled toward a residence while hearing branches breaking, prolonged howling and screaming, and trees being beaten.

In mid-summer 1970 the witness was driving along the Sandy River looking for a place to target shoot when he found saplings snapped off with the tops formed into a large bedding area. Nearby were several freshly gutted rabbits, a death-like smell, and unusually silent woods. He left to find a ranger station and returned with a ranger who photographed the site, after which both described themselves as becoming believers.
