The witness was in bed around 2 a.m. when a powerful stench prompted a look out the bedroom window. The figures left into the woods, and the next day the witness found the tree down with the saw bar displaced and many tracks and cracked walnuts nearby.

The companion heard the sounds and smelled the odor but did not see the figure, and the pair quickly returned to their vehicle.

They glimpsed an ape-like biped charging away through thick brush, breaking limbs and leaving a foul odor. Afterwards they noted disturbed rocks and a partial heel print that later dried out and was not photographed.

They heard cackling, yelping, growling and moaning sounds and found the trail blocked by a large uprooted stump with placed boulders and smashed trees. Two upright figures, one black and one light brown and hairy, were seen moving parallel to the group and leaping down a cliff, while the group felt stalked and watched as they hurried out to the road.

A couple out fishing and scouting for elk followed animal tracks and noticed a strong bad odor, white coarse hair covering a stump, and very large deep footprints around a wallow leading toward a creek. They estimated the prints were about a day old and also noted scarred trees and broken branches in the area. Frightened by the size and strangeness of the signs, they left and reported the experience right away.

After a few seconds of mutual staring, the man walked away and the animal bolted past him on two legs, breaking branches as it ran. The account was relayed secondhand by a friend who said the witness was frightened and stayed out of the woods for months.

They heard persistent huffing and a growl, experienced silence and a sense of being watched, and reported a dark shape blocking a camper window. When leaving they later found muddy primate-like handprints high on the camper and a trailer lock twisted and broken.
Gold dredgers have afternoon encounter in Cherokee National Forest
Two men had finished dredging for gold and were talking when they noticed a large dark creature about 100 feet away partly behind a dead tree and tailings pile. The creature reached up and snapped off a tree limb, looked at them for 10 to 20 seconds while a strong smell was present, then turned and walked into the woods. They stayed in the area for two more weeks with no further sightings but reported smelling it several times.

After hearing tree breaks, movement, strange noises and heavy footsteps, the witness saw a large red bipedal animal walk along the road. After mimicking animal sounds in the evening, the witness stayed awake through the night hearing crashes, footsteps, grunts and mimicking speech, and saw eye shine high off the ground. In the morning the pair found a snapped tree, strong odor, widely spaced ground marks and a five-toed partial print, which the witness attributed to a large visitor.

While on night patrol, the witness responded to a companion's report of something standing by trees behind a building and shone a spotlight into the woods. A very large upright hairy creature holding a branch was seen, which then dropped the branch, looked back with red eyeshine, screamed, and ran away with a strong odor left behind. The witnesses later found a large pine branch torn from about nine feet up.
