Two teenagers camped on a mountain logging road were harassed by thrown sticks, loud grunting and tree-banging sounds, and a strong foul odor. When they shone a light into the woods about 25 yards away, they saw a very tall fur-covered figure that ducked behind a tree. They put out their fire and fled down the trail, saying the figure followed them most of the way back.

In August 1984 four teenagers were camping overnight on a wooded ridge when they heard unexplained noises and their dogs became agitated. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.

The witness, then a teenager, led four companions single-file through dark woods at night to take lumber from a house under construction. The group heard a noise ahead, then saw a very tall upright figure with red eyeshine in the weak flashlight beam. The witness and a companion drove to a picnic area in a forested area at dusk to relax after bowling. While outside the car the witness heard loud heavy strides coming up the hillside, followed by a low growl-like sound, prompting both to get in the car to leave. As they drove away something thumped against the car. Later under bright lights they found large handprints in the dust on the roof, side panel and door.

The witness and his friend camped and fished over a weekend at a remote creek below a ridge road. They experienced pebbles and rocks thrown, pacing, huffing, wood knocks, a disturbed fire pit and scattered poles. A large creature then came down the ridge into the creek, growled at them from about 20 yards, and left. A DNR officer later found prints, cast them, and called them bear tracks.

The witness drove to a wildlife management area for an evening deer hunt and climbed into his stand. A frightened doe hid beneath the stand, then a very tall, black-haired, human-faced creature appeared, stared at him, growled when he aimed his rifle, and exchanged shrill whistles with another individual nearby. The witness fled on foot to his truck, fired a warning shot, drove away, and saw a large black hand reach for the tailgate and a second creature standing with the first.

The witness got out with a flashlight thinking friends were pranking him and came face to face with a huge wolf-headed creature that growled. A family living in a rural wood-frame home reported repeated nighttime visits over several years by two large hair-covered bipeds, one larger and one smaller. The creatures were said to peer in windows, mimic an infant's sounds, produce a strong septic odor, throw heavy tanks, damage a vehicle, and leave hair on the house. Livestock on surrounding farms were found dead with intestines removed. After the father fired through a wall at one creature, only the smaller one was reportedly seen, and activity lessened after relatives guarded the house and a protective ritual was performed.

She heard the screen door open and shut, smelled a foul odor, heard heavy shuffling steps and breathing with a soft growl behind her bunk, and felt something large and furry trace her face. She next remembers waking on the floor, and the next morning a bunkmate said she had seen a big black hairy creature standing behind the witness.

On a clear night in August 1972, the 12-year-old witness was reading late in his bedroom when feral dogs chased something into his backyard. He heard heavy bipedal footfalls, a violent impact against the house corner and window, a grunt, and then a short deep growl directed at the dogs, followed by silence. The intruder then fled over a cedar fence as the dogs pursued, leaving a strong foul odor. Next morning the witness found a flattened flowerbed and trellis, a toppled lumber stack, and a tuft of hair of uncertain origin on the fence.

Guest age 7 and his grandfather saw a tall upright figure standing above the corn at the edge of the field in the evening and went inside. Later that night the guest woke to a strong odor and saw a dark hairy figure filling the bedroom window looking in, while his grandfather held a pistol. The figure moved to the front porch where the grandfather fired a shotgun through the screen door, after which it fled up the road vocalizing with screams and distant whoops.

In 1972 the witness camped with family in a van at a newly opened park at Beaver Lake in the Arkansas Ozarks. Late at night after a loud bang on the van and seeing a shadow, nearby campers fled, then the group watched a tall hairy biped with a dog-like snout descend a rocky ridge, heard a loud growl, and were pelted with gravel before fleeing the park before dawn.

The witness was sleeping in a tent with other campers during a Girl Scout overnight stay when she was awakened by something pressing on the tent and making grunting sounds. After she scratched the tent fabric and made a loud sound herself, she felt something solid outside and heard a loud grunt or growl followed by crashing away through the underbrush. The other occupants screamed, camp leaders said everyone was accounted for, and an unrecognized funky odor was noticed.

The witness and others were inside a makeshift shelter at a remote mountain camp at night with microphones placed outside. Loud rock clacking and snarling sounds were heard from about fifty feet away. The group remained inside with firearms, uncertain what the creatures intended.

In August 1964 two teenagers were walking back to a family cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon after dark when they heard footsteps matching their movements and a low unearthly growl. They ran through a gully to the cabin and locked themselves inside. They then heard the nearby outhouse door open and slam, saw nothing when they turned on an outside light, later heard the door fling open with crashing in brush, and spent the night upstairs.

Three companions walking back from swimming along a forestry road felt watched and heard snapping branches and rustling paralleling their movement. When they shouted and threw rocks toward the roadside bushes, rocks were thrown back at them while growling sounds were heard and the accompanying dog barked. Frightened, they ran to a nearby activity centre and later told a parent, who suggested a bear.
