Three young men walked a trail at night in a conservation area to look for a pond. Rocks were thrown toward two of them from the woods, strange pacing, a low growl, and rhythmic booming sounds followed them. They found fresh green trees snapped and laid across the trail blocking the path, then were hurried out by more rock throws and close movement before the woods went quiet and normal night sounds returned near the car.

The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

They shone flashlights across the river and saw an upright human-like creature bring down a dead tree into the river and move in the water. Around 2 a.m. the husband saw a tall hair-covered biped beside their SUV and illuminated it before it ran past him over a gate into the woods. Late at night the witness took the dog into the backyard overlooking a river and heard grunt-like vocalizations from the opposite bank. After shouting and tossing a small stone into the trees, the witness heard a shriek/howl and the stone was thrown back to land at their feet. The witness ran inside, then returned with a flashlight to find twisted vegetation and snapped branches and noted a foul smell.

At about 2 a.m. during a break in a storm, the witness heard something at the backyard wire fence and went outside armed with a relative. They heard footsteps and loud cracks first mistaken for gunfire and fired weapons toward the sound. The cracking was then recognized as wood splitting as a huge tree was pushed over, crashing down and shaking the house, after which the family heard loud footfalls running away.

The witness illuminated a large dark figure leaning from behind a tree about 30 feet away. A large rock was then thrown from the woods over the fire between the two people, the witness fired two shots into the air, and the figure was heard moving, breaking a tree, splashing across the creek, and ascending the opposite hillside. The pair left most gear behind, drove home, and returned the next morning to recover equipment and examine the broken tree.

The witness claims a family group has visited a rural wooded property regularly for nearly two years, typically evenings to early mornings several times a week. Reported activity includes footprints, wood knocks, odors, vocalizations, trail and structure formation, and direct sightings with food exchange and close interactions. An investigator visited the densely brushed property, observed extensive trails and shelter-like spots, and interviewed the household about four to five individuals of different sizes.

The witness shot a deer at dusk and dragged it toward his truck after dark. On the trail he saw a widely spaced pair of large eyes at about his own height that stayed after he fired a handgun into the ground, then left to the side through dense brush with loud crashing. He smelled a foul musky odor and found pushed-over vegetation where it left, felt watched while field-dressing the deer, and later found part of the carcass dragged about 300 yards.
