Two campers sitting around a campfire at night heard a single loud knock like a bat hitting a tree from across the lake. They saw no lights or activity on the side where the sound originated and heard nothing else that night. The witness later tried but could not replicate the sound on nearby trees.

The witness and companions were elk hunting and hiking up Spencer Butte on a rainy morning when two of them heard a distant yowl. At the top the witness found an alder shaking without wind and heard something moving away. Shortly after the witness found a large left-foot print with distinct toes in mud and gravel and photographed it.

In 1998 the witness and a relative were hunting near Yellowjacket Creek and stopped on a trail to free a shoelace caught in a bike sprocket. A tall dark creature walked up the trail to within about 25 feet, then stepped behind a large maple tree and peeked from side to side. The two left the area quickly.

The witness and four companions camped on a logging spur to climb Mount St Helens. Around 2-3 a.m., the witness and one companion awoke to very loud, distant, deep howling that lasted about 15 minutes. They had not heard the sound before and ruled out cougar and elk, tentatively considering a bear but finding it too loud for a bear at that distance. No visual contact or physical evidence was reported, and the sound was heard on only one of three nights at the site.

They stopped and scanned the area for 10-15 minutes with no further movement, but noted disturbed ground where it appeared to leave the woods.

After hooking something heavy that fought like a living animal, he watched it stand upright in the river about 30 feet below the boat, waist-deep with its arms moving as it worked free of the hook. After a few minutes it freed itself, dove underwater, and left a wake heading downstream without surfacing for about 100 yards.

The figure stood motionless for several minutes looking away, then walked quickly across the clearing with long strides and disappeared into brush on the far side. The pair later approached the spot but found no tracks on the hard ground, though they noted a path through tall blackberry bushes where it had exited.

After hearing a repeated striking sound, the witness looked across the river and saw a large dark bipedal figure repeatedly lifting a fish overhead and striking it on a rock. After watching briefly the figure carried the fish away toward the woods, and the witness reeled in and ran to tell the relative, who suggested it was another fisher and did not investigate.

While fishing about forty yards apart on a riverbank, the witness and a relative felt watched and noticed movement in brush at the base of a cliff. The pair fled down a trail toward camp, and the witness looked back to see a large hair-covered arm and hand reaching out of the brush right behind him before it disappeared. The next day they returned and found indistinct tracks in soft dirt at the bottom of the cliff face.

Five people were camping together at dawn when they heard rapid crashing and thrashing through nearby underbrush with snapping twigs. This was followed by a loud, high-pitched scream described as like a woman screaming, estimated to be 30-50 yards away. The group was terrified and left the area immediately.

In summer 1970, the witness and a companion were camping in a tent along logging roads when they heard loud ape-like screaming lasting many seconds. They saw a large dark silhouette about 150 feet away, shouted warnings and fired .22 rounds at it without effect. Upon approaching, they found the silhouette was an old logging stump. The witness estimated the screams came from within a few hundred yards, with no nearby houses.
