While driving over a hill at night, the witness's headlights illuminated a large dark furry figure by a road sign at the roadside. The figure appeared ready to cross from a swampy marsh toward wooded hills but turned swiftly back into the marsh when lit. The witness reported seeing the light-colored hairless sole of its very large foot before it disappeared.

The witness was doing senior photos at a lake with two companions when rocks were repeatedly thrown into the water from across the lake, accompanied by tree knocks and limb breaking. The group took burst photos toward the sounds and then left the area. At home the witness found what he believed to be a black orangutan-faced figure holding a white object in two of the photos, plus a possible smaller shape in a tree.

Terrified, the witness fled to sleep in the bathroom and later told his father, who laughed it off.

They first mistook it for distant dogs and then a bear. The next day the witness heard a televised 1994 howl recording from a nearby county and became convinced it was the exact same sound.
