The witness and a companion were sleeping in a tent at a forested campground near a river. At dawn they were awakened by three very loud, very low-pitched, human-sounding grunts from just outside the tent, described as close enough to vibrate the witness's diaphragm and originating above tent height. Cooking gear and plates with food residue left out on the picnic table were undisturbed.

Two cousins were gold panning and exploring a forested ridge road when one spotted a large hair-covered biped across the valley in a clearing. They watched for at least 20 minutes as it sat upright on a log, stood, looked toward them, turned side to side, took steps, and held an object in one hand. Both describe themselves as experienced hunters and state it was not a bear.

The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

Three people driving on a logging road crested a hill and saw a large black hairy biped at the bottom of a clearcut about 200 yards away. The creature ran about 100 yards to the timber line in about four seconds over uneven terrain. The witnesses returned the next morning and found no tracks.

The witness was sleeping at home with the bedroom window open when he woke abruptly around 12:30 a.m. He then heard very loud wailing, screaming, laughing and whoop-like yells coming from a field several hundred yards away. The sounds repeated several times while seeming to move farther away, as if the source was running.

While bow-hunting, the witness heard repeated loud knocks from nearby woods lasting many minutes, then later heard brush rustling moving toward an elk call. After repositioning along a road, the witness heard a final very loud knock from a large tree about 30 yards away and left the area as darkness fell. A hunting companion nearby reported hearing a couple of knocks.

The witness slept in his vehicle at a pullout and sat up about 8:30 a.m. to see a large dark figure walking away down the road. He watched it round a bend, then tried to follow with a camera but it was gone. About half an hour later he heard loud yelling from the woods where it had gone.

Three people paddleboarding in the shallow back end of a lake at sunset came across a long trackway of very large footprints in the mud under the water. The prints appeared to follow elk tracks and occasionally veered aside near underwater nest-like depressions with shells. No figure or animal was seen, and the witnesses estimated a foot far larger than a human foot with very long strides. The tracks had washed away by the next day.
Face-to-face encounter at dusk along the Pacific Coast Trail
The witness and a companion were hiking back up a forested trail in the evening when they heard loud branch-breaking sounds, saw bushes sway, and smelled a strong garbage-like odor. After the forest went quiet, the witness turned and saw a very large, dark reddish-brown, ape-faced head peering over vegetation, which watched curiously for a few seconds before moving behind a tree. The companion heard the sounds and smelled the odor but did not see the figure, and the pair quickly returned to their vehicle.

While camping overnight for an archery hunt, a witness and a relative reported hearing mumbling vocalizations and footsteps around their tent for hours. The relative reported seeing a large hand press the tent wall, and both later reported seeing large upright figures near the truck and treeline, one illuminated by flashlight. After the figures continued circling the camp, the two packed the tent without breaking it down and drove away around 4 a.m.
Campers hear knocks and unknown vocalizations at night in Tillamook State Forest
The witness and two companions were camping at the same forest campground where relatives had reported loud calls the previous weekend. After an evening hike and unsuccessful knocking attempt, they were stargazing around the campfire. They then heard two sets of rapid knocks from one direction followed within seconds by two howls from another direction, which they recorded. The camp was otherwise empty, with the nearest other campground miles away.

The witness and a relative went elk hunting near Sweet Home, Oregon and split up along an unused skid road. A large limb fell from a fir tree in calm conditions near the witness, and further up the road between berms he felt intense dread with hair standing up and decided to leave. The feeling persisted until he got into the truck and drove away.

A couple driving to a hunting spot in late morning saw a tall hairy biped running alongside their truck near Highway 66. The creature came to the far side of the highway and then veered away in a wide arc, watched for about thirty seconds. The wife saw the most detail when it looked toward the vehicle, noting facial features, long hair, wide shoulders and large hands and feet.

The witness drove a companion by ATV to a high switchback at sunset so the companion could get phone reception, then stepped away to give privacy. Hearing a deep warning growl from a tree cluster between them, the witness drew a sidearm and moved to get between the companion and the sound. While doing so, the witness watched a very large, fast, hair-covered creature cross open growth to reach the trees, after which it went silent, and both left promptly.

The witness was walking alone on an ATV trail toward a hunting clearing in early morning darkness. A large upright animal crossed the trail in two strides, then moved quickly downhill as the witness illuminated it with a flashlight for a few seconds. The witness described a tall, muscular, dark-furred animal and then returned to the vehicle and left.

The witness took his family camping on the eastern shore of Cougar Reservoir. In the middle of the night something large approached on two feet from a hill, and he placed himself between it and his family while his partner moved the children to the vehicle. He fired warning shots, experienced distorted hearing and an intrusive thought, then saw a very tall wide black figure stop at the wood line about 12 feet away before he backed to the vehicle and left.
Possible vocalizations heard while visiting McKenzie River Valley
Late at night at a yurt near a creek, the witness stepped outside and heard loud hooting/howling from across the creek. The sound was heard two more times from inside the yurt, and later the witness saw a faint outline duck behind trees on the hillside. The next morning a partial muddy footprint with hairs was found leading toward the yurt door.

In spring while his family played on an icy pool near waterfalls past Blue Pool, the guest heard a large branch break about 50 feet into the woods. He saw a light-brown vertical silhouette that walked toward the highway. He ran to get ahead of it but found nothing and returned to his family.

While wading late in the day, the witness felt hair rise and smelled sudden rancid carrion. A large beaver rushed downstream past him and the sense of something nearby in tall grass intensified. He watched for a bear, then walked to his rig and left without seeing the source.
Possible sighting at night by a family on Hwy. 140E near Bonanza
The witness was driving home at night with three children when headlights revealed an upright figure crossing the highway ahead. The figure crossed two lanes in two long strides and disappeared into roadside trees despite the witness slowing to look. The witness and two of the children reported seeing the same figure and could offer no other explanation for its height and stride.
