The witness and his teenage son rowed to an isolated wooded shore at night to set off fireworks while family watched from across the water. The witness heard loud huffing and grunting, crashing through brush, and smelled strong body odor approaching in the dense woods. He briefly saw a very large, wide, shaggy human-like silhouette between trees in his flashlight beam. He took his son and paddled away quickly, leaving chairs and fireworks equipment behind.

After exiting the vehicle he heard loud howls and ape-like grunts from the woods that he perceived as very large and threatening. They heard cackling, yelping, growling and moaning sounds and found the trail blocked by a large uprooted stump with placed boulders and smashed trees. Two upright figures, one black and one light brown and hairy, were seen moving parallel to the group and leaping down a cliff, while the group felt stalked and watched as they hurried out to the road.

In late September 2005 the witness was camped at Jacob's Hill and sitting by the fire when a loud throaty wailing roar lasting about 5-10 seconds came from timber between meadows. Coyotes in several nearby spots immediately began howling and yelping as if disturbed. The witness did not hear the sound again during that trip.
