The witness was bowhunting deer alone from a tree stand in the evening and shot a buck. While climbing down and tracking the deer in near-dark, the witness heard loud screaming-growling noises, smelled a strong pungent odor, and saw a huge silhouette about 30 yards away on a hillside. The witness left the woods while still hearing the noises and returned the next morning to find the blood trail ended with no deer.
Night time sighting by two witnesses at trailhead in Shawnee National Forest
The witness and her father were walking back to the trailhead parking area at night when the father noticed eyeshine in the trees to the side of the trail about 30-40 feet away. With headlamps on, they both observed shining eyes and the outline of a rounded head that turned to look at them before they turned their lights off. The figure then walked away downhill with heavy deliberate bipedal steps, paused, and remained nearby while the witness spoke softly before they left quietly. After returning home they photographed smudge marks on their vehicle that had not been noticed earlier.

The witness was walking at night from a camper toward town when a loud fall-like noise occurred ahead in the road. A shadowy fur-covered biped stood up about 30 feet away and walked calmly across the road before disappearing into vegetation. The witness continued past the spot believing the creature stayed hidden nearby without further interaction.

They reported seeing only from the mid-chest down, describing it as upright on thick muscular hind legs and stooped over. It left the roadway into woods behind a house, and the witnesses drove away without stopping. A later daytime check found nothing.

In darkness before dawn, a hunter walking toward a deer stand encountered a very tall bipedal silhouette about 45-50 feet away at a field edge. The figure turned and ran quietly into the treeline within about 10-15 seconds before a flashlight or shotgun could be used. The witness then went to the stand and called a parent about the sighting.

Three people parked near a bend in a road to look at the spot of an earlier sighting. They watched a large silhouette leaning against a tree that slowly raised an arm toward its face and later disappeared, while a smaller fur-covered figure was seen walking in the open and then running when approached on foot. The larger figure was also reported to turn its head to watch a passing truck.

In early fall 2003 just after sunset, the witness was walking back toward the house after collecting firewood when a large dark figure appeared within a few feet and blocked light from nearby buildings. The figure moved quickly into roadside grass and disappeared after about ten seconds. The witness went to the house, later searched the spot but found no sign.

Coming home one night, the witness and a parent both saw a human-like silhouette in the hallway that fled and vanished. The witness was resting by the Des Plaines River during a bicycle ride when a hair-covered creature was seen across the river splashing in the water. After the witness coughed, the creature threw large rocks toward the witness, then crossed the river silently and confronted the witness at close range. The witness fled along a trail while hearing a loud howl and screaming and seeing additional shadowy figures across the river.
