The son photographed it with a cellphone as it traveled parallel to the road, paused to look at them, then crossed the narrow road in two steps and vanished into dense brush. Investigators later interviewed the witnesses, examined the photos, and revisited the site for measurements.

The witness was walking home at night near a creek when something began throwing sticks and rocks and following her. The throwing reportedly paused when cars passed. The witness stopped behind that car and watched the animal from behind as it reached the left side of the road and walked into the bushes. The witness later concluded it was too tall and thin to have been a bear.

Three women driving from Lake Quinault toward the coast in the afternoon saw a tall, dark-haired bipedal animal cross the highway in front of their pickup. The animal glanced toward them, continued across without hurrying, and disappeared into brush on the far side. The driver sped up to get a closer look but the animal had finished crossing by the time they passed.

The witness was driving on a gravel road looking for a bow-season campsite in late morning. Glancing in the rearview mirror, the witness saw a very tall, broad, dark upright creature standing in the middle of the road behind the vehicle. After stopping, the witness watched it pivot, take a step to the side of the road, and disappear down a steep rocky slope. No definite footprints were found in the gravel where it had stood.

The witness, a newspaper carrier, was stopped by the road in the dark reviewing a route sheet. A figure approached the vehicle from the passenger side to within a few feet, appearing curious and focused on the inside of the vehicle, then crossed the road. The encounter lasted less than a minute, after which the witness drove away quickly and called emergency services.

The witness was driving west for work when, after cresting a hill, the witness saw in the rear-view mirror a reddish-brown hair-covered creature cross the highway from south to north. The creature walked without hurry with long strides and showed no interest in the vehicles. The witness stopped, turned around and searched the crossing area but saw nothing further.

The witness pulled to the side of a road near woods and a river around 9 p.m. to relieve himself. The accompanying dog began growling and barking, and the witness saw a very large figure cross the road in about two steps and disappear into the woods about 30 yards away. When the witness walked toward the spot with the dog and a flashlight, the dog refused to advance, a strong musky smell was noticed, and cracking sounds in the vegetation moved toward them, prompting the witness to return to the car and drive away.

The animal then ran on all fours in the roadside ditch, keeping pace with the truck at about 35 mph for about 10-15 seconds before disappearing. Both occupants watched it but could not identify it, noting longer front legs, uniform hair, and no snout or tail.

After parking and making loud knocks with logs, they heard a distant bark, human-like whistling from multiple directions, and later fast bipedal footsteps. A companion reported seeing something cross the road during the footsteps and hearing a branch break nearby. Feeling they were being approached, both left the area around 12:30.
