Students have a sighting at dusk close to their university in Madison
Three students walking near a lakeshore at dusk saw a tall, dark-haired biped about 100 feet away by bushes at the shoreline. They stopped and watched as it picked at vegetation, then made a purring sound that turned into a growl. The creature then walked on two legs into nearby woods making loud crunching noises, while the witnesses remained frightened.

While walking a ridge the witness noticed bent saplings and knocked on a tree, receiving clear wood-knock replies from a steep kettle below. A large living oak branch was then twisted toward the witness and ripped off, falling to the kettle bottom. Returning later with two companions, they found fresh twist damage and hand-like bark rubs with strong odor, then a young companion saw a light-colored bipedal figure and all heard a deep growl.

While bow-hunting in fresh snow, the witness found a trail of large barefoot-like tracks and followed it about 70 yards to a thicket. After getting into a tree stand, the witness heard knocks, breaking branches, growling, huffs and moans from about 100 yards away for an hour. Becoming nervous, the witness left the area.

Late at night the witness was on the deck and repeatedly heard a loud growling-screaming sound moving from a field across the road to a field behind the house, but saw nothing in the moonlight. The next evening the witness and a companion searched with a spotlight and reported finding large bipedal footprints with a long stride. The tracks were photographed the following day after warm weather had largely melted them, and the photos were later judged too indistinct to include.

The witness was walking back from the mailbox in the afternoon when she heard deep man-like grunts and thumping from a brush thicket beside the driveway. She saw part of a large reddish-brown fur-covered animal, hunched over and rubbing or pounding its head or shoulders on trees. When she moved to get a better view, the animal ran toward her growling with heavy footfalls, and she fled to the house as it hit downed trees and stopped at the brush edge.

After exiting the vehicle in suddenly calm conditions, the witness heard steps growing louder followed by a loud repeated groaning sound. Hearing loud bipedal movement approaching inside the treeline, the witness called out thinking it was the companion. On the trail back they heard loud bipedal footsteps, heavy raspy breathing, and a powerful growl from very close range but saw nothing despite sparse cover. The unseen presence paced them for about a hundred yards, then growled again and ran toward them through the swamp as they reached the truck and left.
