The figure moved to the front porch where the grandfather fired a shotgun through the screen door, after which it fled up the road vocalizing with screams and distant whoops.

They then watched for a few seconds a very large, hairy figure walking upright uphill about 50-100 yards away, with its head obscured by branches. The figure quickly disappeared, and when the witness crossed to the other side they found nothing, noticed complete silence, became frightened, and ran home to tell a relative who did not believe them.

Three elk hunters walking back toward camp heard a loud crash and chased what they assumed was a bull elk to the rim of a deep, steep-sided canyon. From across the canyon the reporter watched through a rifle scope as a tall, black-haired biped ran up the opposite slope on two feet and briefly turned to show its face in profile before entering the trees. The group chose not to pursue closely, later backtracked the trail toward the highway, and examined broken vegetation and footprints the following day.
