During the night they heard knocking, whooping, and footsteps around their tent, and something stepped on a companion's hand through the tent wall. Two of them looked outside but saw nothing, hearing only something heavy moving away quickly. Years later they interpreted the incident as a Bigfoot encounter.

The son encountered a large hairy biped running toward him, screamed, and watched it run past him downhill into dense brush. The witness ran forward after hearing the scream, heard loud crashing in the brush, and caught only a brief glimpse of a dark shape disappearing.

The animal ceased following as they reached a more traveled ridge trail.
