Newspaper delivery couple describe 4am encounter outside Roanoke near Blue Ridge Pkwy
The witness and a companion were delivering newspapers overnight when headlights revealed a tall, dark-brown, shaggy-haired biped at the road edge. It walked quickly uphill on two feet, and after the car was repositioned the pair watched a pair of glowing red-yellow eyes blinking from behind a tree for about ten minutes. When they returned after finishing the route the figure was gone but vegetation where it stood appeared pushed down.

On the night of November 23 the witness shone a light from the deck toward a small woods patch behind the house to check for deer. About 160 yards away he saw a pair of large, brilliant emerald-green eyes spaced widely apart. As an experienced outdoorsman he said he had never seen eyes of that shape, brilliance and spacing, and said the sighting combined with an earlier strange vocalization made him open to a Sasquatch-type creature being present.

The witness was driving eastbound at night and slowed to watch for deer. In the headlights the witness noticed eyeshine and then the upper part of a large dark creature standing motionless behind a steep bank. The creature had broad shoulders, long arms held out with bent elbows and hanging hair, a huge flat face, and a slight sulfurous odor was noted. The witness returned about ten days later and found scuff marks on the bank.

The witness was driving alone at night in rain and patchy fog when the headlights revealed a large four-footed animal off the road. The animal turned its head to look toward the lights and then lumbered toward the treeline while being watched for only seconds. The witness first thought of a huge dog or lion-like animal but later concluded it resembled a Gigantopithecus-like creature.
Hikers startled by encounter at remote cabin near Woodstock
Three backpackers camping at a remote stone cabin heard loud heavy bipedal footsteps circling their site for an extended period and retreated inside. After the sounds stopped outside a shuttered window, the shutters were opened to reveal a large dark hairy face with large eyes staring in from very close range. After a few seconds of mutual staring the creature left quickly and no further sounds were heard overnight. They left in the morning and found no tracks due to ice.
A sighting by two motorists
The witness and a companion were driving home from a fishing trip when a deer ran across the road and they stopped. The witness then noticed a large dark animal on the passenger side of the road that stayed motionless for a long time while being observed. It eventually jumped over a guardrail and disappeared down a brushy embankment while continuing to watch them.

The witness and friends drove to a remote gravel road to party at night. After a loud crash from a tree, something bipedal circled them making growling sounds and then gave a loud roar they could feel. It stepped into the spotlight as a massive white figure, climbed a bank in three steps and rushed their truck before they fled, later returning in daylight to find impressions on the bank.

A teenager staying alone at a remote hunting cabin after companions left and did not return spent nights unsettled by a wet-animal odor and a feeling of being watched. While sleeping outside by a fire pit, the fire died low and a large unseen presence approached, producing deep growls, snot-blowing sounds, stomping that vibrated the ground, and a pair of very high, widely spaced, bright red glowing eyes. The witness remained still praying until morning, when the presence was gone, and later told companions who laughed.

The witness was an MP stationed at Davison Army Airfield from late 1977 to late 1979. While alone on night gate duty he noticed a deer acting alarmed, heard a noise in the dark woods beyond the street light, and saw two red eyes reflecting back at a height well above deer level. He connects the incident to repeated nighttime knocks, loud wood breaks and unfamiliar animal sounds heard around the airfield swamp and south perimeter woods.

A camping party arrived late at a ridgetop site and heard strange howling around 2 to 3 a.m. the first night. The next evening after dinner the dog fixated on brush by a steep drop, where one camper saw paired eyes at close range that avoided a flashlight, followed by branch breaks and a tall tree-like silhouette that walked from one side of camp to the road and later showed yellow eyeshine. The group packed hurriedly, secured the dog and lights, and drove home the same night feeling watched but not directly threatened.

The neighbor said she and another person had been sitting on their wood-surrounded deck when something gave a deep guttural growl, and on approaching the edge she saw eyes in the woods, prompting them to go inside.
