Around 2 a.m. the witness stepped out of a backyard tent and saw a tall hair-covered figure standing by the corner of the house near a pine tree. After staring at each other for several seconds, the figure pushed off the tree, causing it to sway, and ran silently down a bank toward the woods and cornfield. To keep the mother from seeing them the grandfather had the boys wash the tracks away with well water. Later that day the brothers found matching large tracks in the field where the 1972 figure stood, measured one at about 19 inches, then heard an owl-like hoot tapering to a growl and fled.

After climbing down from a deer stand and walking to the edge of a soybean field on a full-moon night, the witness saw a very large standing figure about 30 feet away near the woods. Guest age 7 and his grandfather saw a tall upright figure standing above the corn at the edge of the field in the evening and went inside. Later that night the guest woke to a strong odor and saw a dark hairy figure filling the bedroom window looking in, while his grandfather held a pistol. The figure moved to the front porch where the grandfather fired a shotgun through the screen door, after which it fled up the road vocalizing with screams and distant whoops.

The witness was sitting quietly while squirrel hunting in Magoffin County in late September 1972 when he saw a large reddish-brown creature about 70 yards away. The creature walked away on two legs from right to left, pausing briefly to look around before continuing out of sight, apparently unaware of the witness. The creature fell silent, then revived and ran one way while the two men fled the other, later tracking it and sparking local monster lore.
