Camper has night sighting near Crater Lake

The witness was camping with relatives south of Crater Lake and sleeping alone in a tent at night. While lying in a sleeping bag, the witness heard footsteps approach from the wooded side and saw a human-like outline shadowed in a distant campfire glow. The figure bumped the corner of the tent, shaking it, paused as if staring, then moved toward the front where it could no longer be heard on pavement.

The witness was driving home at night in summer 1980 with family asleep in the car when a light-colored, hairy, male figure emerged from roadside trees and stopped in the headlights. She stopped the car and observed it face-to-face, noting its size, musculature, long head hair, facial hair, and strong odor before it walked off the road. Her companions slept through the event.

The witness was in his pickup at the mailbox on a very cold, windy winter morning when he noticed movement in a pasture about a quarter-mile away. He watched for about 10 to 12 seconds as a large, dark-brown, long-haired, man-like figure with long arms took large steps south toward a shelterbelt, glanced toward him, then moved faster and disappeared into the trees. He did not go to look for tracks in the snow because he was afraid.

The witness was riding in the back seat while two relatives drove home at night. An upright, black-haired figure crossed the road 20 to 50 feet in front of the car. The witness saw little of it, while a parent described it as ape-like with dragging arms and taller than a 6-foot-9 relative.

In the early afternoon the witness was about to enter brush ringing a stream inlet when a very tall, hair-covered human-like figure came within about 20 feet at a slow walk. The witness described its size, hair, facial features and muscular build, noting it was defensive but not threatening and made no sound. The witness withdrew to a truck without being followed, and also noted a very large track, sand mounds, possible vomit and scat, and bark damage in the same area.

As a teenager pushing deer for his father on a hunting trip, the witness rested against a fallen tree in a gully. After hearing a branch snap, he saw a tall, dark, hair-covered figure standing on the opposite ridge about 30 feet away, which watched him for several minutes before taking a step toward him. The witness fled on foot to the road and waited for his father, who did not believe the account.

The animal moved slowly and showed no reaction to the vehicle. After driving on, the pair got stuck turning around in a wheat field, then drove back past the site without seeing the creature again.

In November 1979 the witness walked on a low lake's exposed mud flat following the inlet stream and found very large human-like tracks. He followed them about 100 meters and noted they crossed deep water twice and ascended a steep bank without changing stride or showing shaking off. Drawing on lifelong woods experience and wildlife work, he said he could not identify the track maker and ruled out known local animals.

Two deer hunters found very large unfamiliar tracks in powder snow near old-growth timber. The woods became unusually silent and one hunter felt they were being watched. They never saw what made the tracks and left the area quickly.

The witness and two family members were heading out grouse hunting in the early morning when a dark, very large form crossed the road ahead of them where there were no houses or side roads. The figure walked upright with a leaning gait and long swinging arms and was watched for about five seconds. At the time the father doubted the identification, but decades later he agreed with the younger witnesses that it had been a Bigfoot.

They could not explain who would have built it in dense thorny vegetation with biting insects. Decades later the witness associated the structure with similar ones shown on a Bigfoot television program.

From inside the woods he heard loud branch and log breaking sounds together with strange slurred chatter-like vocalizations lasting a few minutes, then silence. He walked toward the area with bow drawn but could not penetrate the dense brush, and companions hunting elsewhere reported nothing unusual. Decades later he felt the vocalizations matched published Samurai chatter recordings.

The sound was described as sad but not threatening and continued intermittently for about an hour while they searched with a spotlight from a vehicle without seeing anything. They then returned to camp.

About 100 yards away, a dark brown hair-covered figure was seen crouching behind brush and staring at the witness and dog. The dog froze with raised fur and refused to advance. After a brief look through a rifle scope noting human-like eyes and black facial skin, the witness smelled strong body odor and quickly left the area.

The witness fled toward the road, later telling the companion who had not seen it, and a later return to the spot found nothing.
