On the third day they were spread out traversing a steep slope when the witness stopped to rest and heard movement in thick brush below. Something rushed from behind, knocked him into a tree, then stood over him as he lay on his stomach, vocalizing loudly when he tried to look up and swaying while breathing heavily. It glanced toward a second noise downhill, then left as the friends approached calling out, leaving the witness injured and shaken.

The witness was driving north on Highway 101 north of Willits in daylight when a large hair-covered biped entered the roadway and ran across the lanes in front of the car. The witness braked and then stopped as the animal paused at the road edge about 25 feet away, turned its upper body and stared for about five seconds. The animal then bounded up a steep embankment on all fours and left.

He described it as about eight feet tall with long arms, no visible neck, and a hairless human-like face. The figure then stepped into deep water, crossed the creek, and climbed the far bank holding trees, and was gone when the witness returned after dark.

It covered the width in two strides with a steady walking gait and continued into woods on the other side.
