The witness was deer hunting from a stand in a state park in Shelby County, Illinois, when they reported seeing a tall dark figure about 60-70 yards away in the late afternoon. The figure was described as about 8 feet tall with blackish coloring, broad shoulders, long arms and a crowned-shaped head, walking away with its face not visible. The witness took cell-phone photos that lacked detail and later noticed twisted and broken-off trees in the area.

The witness and a companion were camping overnight in hammocks when a prolonged series of nighttime disturbances began. The witness heard crashing movement, branches breaking, rocks banged together, and a large object thrown through the woods landing nearby. Birds, an owl, and distant dogs vocalized during the sequence, which ended with a long wail, after which the woods went quiet. The pair left the area the next morning.
Mushroom picking couple scared out of a forest near Wilkeson
A couple were picking mushrooms in dense old-growth forest in the afternoon when they heard crunching and repeated loud thumping likened to wood knocks from about 100 yards away. A few minutes later a loud snap like a small tree or large branch breaking occurred about 20 feet behind them. Frightened, they abandoned their mushrooms and left the area without seeing the source.

While the first witness was upslope, the other two hunters several hundred yards away along the same ravine heard whoops, loud rapid tree knocks, owls that turned into chicken and pig sounds, rock clacking replies, and large limbs popping in mature pines. They joked about the sounds at the time as bored owls and dismissed them. They later interpreted them as intelligent mimicry and communication coming up out of the ravine.

Throughout the night he heard knocks, screams, howls, voices, footsteps, rocks and twigs landing nearby, and felt his tarp, hammock lines and gear being touched. He also noted a bent-tree structure near camp the prior evening and disturbed logs and tree piles in the morning, but reported seeing no creature.

Two companions stopped while on a fishing outing to inspect a river area. They heard large animals moving on both sides of the road and believed they had interrupted two animals crossing. One animal then charged through brush, knocked vegetation down, and a tree was heard being ripped down, followed by silence and faint hiding sounds. Neither witness obtained a visual, and they left without crossing the river to investigate.

The witness and a companion were elk hunting off a forest road when they heard a loud sharp snap uphill interpreted as a large limb or small tree being broken. They scanned the hillside but saw no animal and heard nothing further. They were then struck by a nauseating putrid odor and felt an ominous urge to leave, so they left the area.

After shooting a deer in fall 2013, the witness left his stand to retrieve and field dress it in a ravine. While doing so he heard loud roar-like screams and howls from two unseen sources to his left and right that seemed to converge toward his position. Feeling watched, he quickly dressed the deer and left the area.

After daylight he went to the area where the sounds originated and found bedding, hair, and broken branches along the path. The experience left the witness scared and uneasy.

The witness was fishing and walking back to a parked truck at dusk when they noticed movement and saw a tall dark figure with orange eyeshine watching them. The figure stood for 5-10 seconds before turning and walking away. The witness also reported sensing being watched and hearing a tree break before reaching the truck.
Possible activity experienced by campers at a popular campground in the Mount Hood National Forest
The witness and two companions camped in the Mt Hood National Forest with a barrel of animal entrails intended as bait. Over three days they reported loud screams from a nearby ridge, nighttime wood knocks, heavy steps and snapping twigs, and found their camp table apparently bitten through. They moved the bait pile away from camp, later found most of it missing with a wet sweet dog-like odor at the site.

The guest and his wife joined other researchers for an overnight investigation of a private property where the owner reported pounding and odd signs. After finding large footprints and noticing fresh fallen trees and a strong odor during an ATV ride, the group heard bipedal steps near base camp late at night. The guest watched a large upright figure sway between trees through night vision, saw it reappear squatting, then lose it as it moved over a ridge. The next morning the team found trampled vegetation where the figure had stood and noted they had audio of the event.

Two people exploring logging roads by jeep stopped to scout a side road on foot. They heard knocking sounds like a stick hitting a tree, then a very loud prolonged cracking like a thick log breaking nearby. They left without seeing any people or vehicles that could explain the noises. A photo taken toward the sounds was later thought to contain something odd but was deemed inconclusive.

On the ninth night of solo primitive camping, the witness was lying awake in a tent when a very loud thud sounded in front of the tent. Movement was then heard in palmettos beside the tent, followed by human-like whistles exchanged from opposite sides and a guttural growl from behind the tent. The witness stayed inside without looking out and found a snapped limb nearby the next morning before leaving camp early.
Tracks near Skamania County (2013)
In April 2013 the guest took his teenage son camping at a just-opened campground off Highway 14 along the Columbia River. During a daytime walk they found an old large track, opened clam shells out of place, a fresh vine-maple twist tucked behind a fir, an 18-inch footprint beneath it, and several pushed or tossed trees. That night in camp they heard branch-breaking, felt the tarps pulled, heard splashing, felt vibration waves, and heard two wood knocks before leaving exhausted in the morning.

The witness was riding a four-wheeler on private property to handle trail cameras near dusk. After topping a ridge and shutting off the vehicle, the witness saw a tall hairy biped about 30 feet away running away and knocking over a small tree. The witness heard crashing sounds during the flight and noticed a faint musky smell afterward.

Two hunters sat in a blind when the woods went quiet and they heard crashing, bipedal footsteps, a loud crash and a deep howl. After waiting until dark, they left and walked toward their boat. When one turned around he saw eye shine several feet off the ground behind them, which then turned away.

The witness was in bed around 2 a.m. when a powerful stench prompted a look out the bedroom window. A partially cut tree about 100 feet away began to topple, and a camera flash revealed a large brown hunched figure about ten feet from the house, possibly with a second figure near the woodline. The figures left into the woods, and the next day the witness found the tree down with the saw bar displaced and many tracks and cracked walnuts nearby.

The witness stopped by a roadside woodlot after noticing a freshly broken young tree and large depressions in leaf litter described as human-shaped footprints. After examining the break and prints, the witness knocked rocks together and reported hearing a distant knock in response, with further knocks and whoops getting no reply.

On a November afternoon hunt, the witness heard loud yelling mixed with growls and screams nearby and recorded trees breaking and heavy pounding footsteps approaching. Deer in the area fled as the sounds got closer, and the witness left quickly. Cattle in a nearby pasture were later seen huddled far from the sounds.
