Late at night the witness was unloading a car behind a rural home when owls around the house suddenly went silent and a loud human-like yell came from the woods about a hundred yards away. The sound felt physically powerful and warning, prompting the witness to leave belongings in the car and go inside. The witness later learned the sound matched prolonged screams previously heard by others in the area.

Late at night while fishing at the Kanopolis Lake spillway, the reporter noticed movement on a hill and then a large figure peeking from behind a tree about 150-200 yards away. The reporter and an adult companion watched it peek in and out for about 45 minutes, seeing red eye-shine with and without a flashlight. Near the end, the companion heard a single knock and a 3-4 second high-pitched scream from the figure's area, which the reporter could not hear over the flowing water.

About half an hour later after going back outside the same sequence repeated. Two people were fishing at night by a creek feeding into a lake when they heard loud man-like screams from several directions and distances. After one scream was mimicked and answered from farther away, they heard splashes and rocks landing in the water around them. They put out their fire, shouted a warning, then retreated to their truck as another rock landed nearby and left.

At dusk in 2012 the witness was sitting alone in a tree stand during archery season. He heard a loud scream from a nearby swamp, then heard heavy footsteps circling behind him where he could not see. An object was thrown through the trees over him and a stone struck the tree he was in, after which he yelled toward the sounds and left for his truck.

The screaming repeated about five times close up and about thirteen to fourteen times total, feeling powerful in his chest. The witness and his son were camping in a tent near a swamp when they were awakened by a loud unusual vocalization, followed by prolonged loud whistling that seemed to circle the camp. About an hour later the witness woke again and saw an upright silhouette pass by the tent. A third companion slept through the sounds, and the group did not stay a second night.

While deer hunting at dusk, the witness shot and field-dressed a deer and then started to leave. An unfamiliar, terrible scream began nearby and continued for about five minutes, getting louder and closer until it seemed to reach the gut pile. The witness reported being on Pigeon Mountain on the night of September 27, 2011, when he heard a deep growl followed by a long mellow scream unlike familiar local animals. The witness camped alone on the east side of a small lake after hiking in about three miles. Around 1 a.m. while stoking his campfire he heard loud wood knocks approaching from the hill and loud vocalizations from the opposite shore about 100 yards away. The source also threw sticks toward his camp. After he fired a rifle shot into the air the sounds stopped, and he remained at camp until the next afternoon before hiking out.
