Three boys were hiking back up a hollow after a day of fishing when they heard rustling on a logging road above them. Large boulders then came down the hillside toward them, prompting them to flee uphill. As they ran, the writer glanced back and saw a large black shape disappearing over the hillside.

While living on a military base and walking a trail past eroded hillsides to the beach, the witness repeatedly smelled a strong odor and had small rocks tossed at the back of the carried board. The witness once saw the hairy backside of a large figure running into the hollows, and a friend who teased its speech and threw a rock was chased. In summer 1973 the witness and a companion boated to a steep forested hillside intending to climb it. Shortly after landing and starting to climb, rocks began falling from above through the trees, increasing from small to football-sized, forcing them to retreat to the boat. Rocks continued to fall in the water around them with one or two landing in the boat, and they saw no one throwing them.

The witness and his wife returned in late January to a rock grotto where he had earlier found a possible bedding area. They found the bed intact but an old wagon moved from a ledge with drag marks in the rock. As they hiked out through a ravine, unseen actors on both ridges followed them for about an hour with knocks, whistles and other vocalizations, shaking and snapping saplings and throwing rocks until the pair reached the woods edge. Neither reported seeing anything.

The witness, recently out of the military, was fly-fishing with three relatives in a steep, remote river gorge. He turned to see an upright animal at close range that quickly climbed the steep bank to the ridgeline. The group then heard extremely loud guttural vocalizations and huffs, saw movement on the ridge, and had a large rock land in the water near them. They left at dusk and later agreed among themselves it had not been a bear despite one relative's dismissive explanation.

The witness was resting by the Des Plaines River during a bicycle ride when a hair-covered creature was seen across the river splashing in the water. After the witness coughed, the creature threw large rocks toward the witness, then crossed the river silently and confronted the witness at close range. The witness fled along a trail while hearing a loud howl and screaming and seeing additional shadowy figures across the river.

While caddying on a private golf course in 1960, the witness says a large soil-stained boulder fell vertically through a tree beside the 13th green and nearly struck a golfer. The fall was heard tearing through branches and leaves. He questioned the initial explanation of quarry blasting because the single rock was soil-stained rather than freshly quarried and fell straight down rather than scattering.
